If you actually read the article detailing the call you would see that he also talked about not wanting Trump’s endorsement. I know you can’t be reasoned with, but at least be knowledgeable about the entirety of what was being discussed on that call instead of taking a snippet and acting like he is actively campaigning using Trumps endorsement. He’s talking about the strategy to use with the hard core Trumpers that may not want to support him. It’s not rocket science or some sort of about-face to tell those people hey, your guy actually did end up endorsing me because your other choice is a far left liberal.

He's said he will caucus with republicans. The most important vote that a senator makes is for majority leader. 90% of the rest is posturing because all that matters is that party that controls the senate controls the agenda.

Because earlier in the campaign when talking to Marylanders in public he said he didn’t want and wouldn’t accept Trump’s endorsement. Now in private he is bragging about he has Trump’s endorsement.

It’s emblematic of how his whole campaign is a deceptive attempt to appear moderate when really he is just another member of Trump’s party.

The biggest change started around the end of July. I wonder if there was some change that happened right about then?

Note that the changes started mildly when Biden dropped out and Harris stepped in to head the ticket. But the bigger change started in mid-to-late-August right after Alsobrooks spoke at the DNC convention. I think she was still largely unknown to many and even in MD, many had a negative view towards her because of state bias against a black woman from PG County. Then she spoke on a national platform at the DNC and people realized that she was more than she was being counted as. Since then, she has had a pretty steady rise and Hogan has has a pretty steady decline.
