Entirely possible. But 2019 was four years ago. I can see the point of view of the family if they have done everything they feel they can to help her and aren't going to do any more. From the little I have read/seen she is either suffering from a horrific mental illness or she is an evil person. They may think prison isn't a bad place for her to be at this point.

Most public defenders won't put up much of defense and are there to hold the defendants hand while they plead guilty. Many public defenders are also woke, so they may not have much sympathy for an affluent white Disney princess defendant.
The point of everyone having robust legal defense is not that the individual deserves it, it’s that the health and fairness of the judicial system depends on it.
