PP here. Thank you for this info. Very helpful and interesting. Regarding the IEP, I have participated in the development of many IEPs over the years (kindergarten thru high school for kids with significant emotional/behavioral concerns and neurodevelopmental issues. Never did we decide a child should be in a regular classroom setting with a parent all day. However, since that is what this administration deemed appropriate, then this child should not have been in that classroom for one minute without a parent.

This. It's not just about her. I want this to terrify every single school district, and force them to change policy. The pendulum has swung WAAAY too far in leniency for students with behavior issues. It's time to fix this, and in our litigious society, this is the only tool we've got for change.

This. The teacher should be compensated for her medical bills and trauma (not to mention her education because I doubt she will be able to cont8nue in this field). But anlso, only by making school systems accountable for permitting violent behavior by students will we force their policies to change.

She got shot by a kid at work- she shouldn’t have to work again in her life. I’m not sure why this offends you so much - you must be management.

The father had been going back and forth with people on social media and said kid was not with mom the day of the shooting and there was a bigger backstory that people did not know. Wonder if this is what he meant? Her fertility issues are completely irrelevant to one teacher
being strangled and another shot. Given how this kid is doing, maybe that should be the focus for now, anyway?

I had assumed that the kid did not have adults consistently engaged but that did not seem to be the case, he literally said on the stream that he was going to shoot someone (kid is tiny btw, so incongruous) then he looked to his father next to him and made direct eye contact. The kid seemed to get a lot of attention from parents and gma by being anti-social, it's all backwards.

This is not a kid who has no connection to others or is just in his head, he is keying off the 3 adults most important to him. Not sure why there was no bond at all with either K or 1st teacher, maybe race played a role or that they were authority figures or something? The chasing other kids with a belt, the touching of a little girl who fell, the strangling and shooting all suggest he has been physically abused, witnessed it or is exposed to violent and sexually explicit media. Abuse he may have suffered himself could also be fueling his rage.

She was shot by a 6 year old at work after multiple warnings were brushed off. Money is the only thing that motivates institutions to change, so the number makes sense to me.
