Does the high school team matter for recruitment purposes? My son was just accepted to one of those schools that is considered a lacrosse powerhouse. Will going to that school get him more exposure for college recruitment?

Baseball is good for non athletic kids though. That is why the less athletic schools have good baseball programs.

I never played lacrosse, and only became interested in it because my undergrad is a top program. Looks like a fun sport to watch and to play though. The culture of substance abuse and entitlement surrounding the sport has to be dealt with, but the sport is growing fast and isnt going away. So to say it isnt a real sport is ridiculous. It requires strategy, speed, toughness and endurance. Deal with the problems but dont bash the whole sport.

Plus, women that played tend to have nice asses.

Baseball is booming in many places. Cuba, The Dominican, Venezuela, etc, etc and in Texas, Florida and California.

It's dying a slow death in Maryland, the District and Virginia.

Of course it's still bigger than lacrosse nationally. But in this area, when lacrosse is available, that's the marquis sport.

Actually baseball TV ratings --- even for the world series --- are way, way down. The 17 million that watched the world series games were eclipsed by an awful Monday Night NFL game during the same week. In 1978 the TV audience for world series games was 80 million each. Hispanics are increasingly dominating the sport.

You aren't in St Louis or someplace where there is still a lot of baseball interest. In Baltimore and Washington, DC baseball continues to fade. That is, if fan interest is any barometer at all.

Go to UVA when there is a lacrosse game and a baseball game being played simultaneously. You'll see thousands watching one of these events and dozens watching the other. Guess which one has the big crowd.

Baseball dwarfs lacrosse - there is no debate about that. But there is a reason why lax is the fastest growing sport in the country for the past 10 years. These kids need immediate gratification, and fewer kids want to stand in right field for a two hour game and have 5 balls hit to them. There is a reason why youth baseball numbers are consequently dropping every year.
