Knew it was only a matter of time.

And the hilarious thing is, that school is called "Classical" -- they focus on Western European culture.

Keeping a book with sexual content out of a school library is not the same thing as banning a book. You are more than welcome to buy it and give it to your child.

Serious question, why do you think it’s the job of the school to provide material to help a child explore their sexuality? How did that become something the school is responsible for?

So you support removing Judy Blume, Boccaccio, the Canterbury Tales, Shakespeare, the Bible, Jane Austen, and Maya Angelou out of school libraries? Yes? Also must remove encyclopedias because they have sexual content if you look for it.

Reddit? No thanks.

No thanks. You gaslighters refused to watch the video of the porn found in Florida schools. Not about to watch your silly videos.

Still scratching my head wondering what rock you grew up under. Teenagers find out about things like sex and masturbation regardless of what books are in their school library.

They're banning Toni Morrison.

They edited out that Rosa Parks' civil disobedience was against racism

Book banning first

Now don’t you worry - these books are still available at the public library for you to share with your kids.

Well stop handing them wins by defending all sexual content in schools. You’re making enemies out of potential friends.

I haven't defended it but I do think it needs a much closer look and to be put in proper context. For example, was it a single book in a single library? Was it a book that's appropriate for high school but inappropriate for k-5 but wasn't actually ever found in any k-5 schools? Those things actually do matter. But instead we're being given a lot of hyperbolic generalities with only a tiny handful of examples, all of which are completely lacking any relevant context.

+1

And then the fascists and their defenders ignore the fact that most of the books stripped from elementary classrooms have been completely non-sexual. No one is knee jerk defending “all sexual content in schools.” That’s a strawman.

When they don't have coherent or nuanced discussion points they resort to strawmen.

Also, in terms of non-sexual we see things like books about non-white athletes being questioned and scrutinized, along with forcing censorship of any discussion of race, such as the reason Rosa Parks was being told to move in the bus. Apparently such bits of history are "woke CRT" or something and therefore are forbidden to be discussed.

No, I don't want k-5 kids exposed to graphic sex, and I doubt that apart from trolls and pedophiles, nobody would ever try and defend that. But by the same token, I think the far right is going completely overboard, is being grotesquely dishonest, and we need to push back on this.

Did they include the part where the state rejected that textbook for "overreach?"

Is it "overreach" to state a true fact that Rosa Parks was told she had to sit in the back of the bus because she was black? That fact was censored by Florida.
