Yup. I bought one layer gauze masks from Etsy, for the rare times I need to wear one. I’ve always considered this to be theater to make the anxious feel better.
Are they embroidered with "I'm a jerk" on them, or is that unnecessary?
They look like they’re real masks, it’s really difficult to see any difference. I’ve worn them on several flights and in medical settings without incident.
So, yes, I’m a jerk. But there’s no way to tell I’ve been side stepping mask mandates since nearly day one.

Can you show us the evidence that they are theater? You keep posting they are theater but have yet to give us evidence of that.

Same in all of Northern VA.
I am seriously confused about why masks are required in montgomery county. Do you guys realize it's 99.999% theater?
WTF are you talking about. The rate of spread in our area is still considered "substantial".
I am so sick of you stupid people.
DP, but you know that the available data on the efficacy of cloth masks-- the things you see most people wearing-- isn't very good, right? Theatre might be an overstatement, but not by much.

People pushing for unmasking may not be acting in the best interests of the United States.
Europe is bracing for omicron and NY just declared a disaster emergency. Now is not the time to unmask.

Jim Crow laws, the Vietnam war, having to wear a mask to the grocery store...
No. Having the government make decisions on my health or that of my children that quite literally changes every week is not a precedent we should allow to be set. Much like the other unacceptable issues you raised. Much larger issue at stake. It’s unfortunate that the mask forever crowd does not understand that.
Regulate obesity. Ban all cigarettes. Force people to exercise.
You mean, like laws about drinking water, food safety, pharmaceuticals, motor vehicle safety, air quality, etc.? That precedent was set a long time ago.
Ok - then Regulate obesity. Demand exercise. Eliminate obesity and Covid would not mean hospitalization and death for thousands of people.
You think it's an intolerable infringement on your personal liberty to have to wear a mask when you're at the grocery store, but you want the government to "regulate obesity" and "demand exercise"?![]()
You miss the point. If you want to regulate behavior for health reasons (masks) why not regulate the conditions that lead to obesity? Such much energy on masks in Covid yet zero on preventing serious illness from it - overweight and beyond. Masks are easy. Exercise is not. The saddest party of this is that according to the CDC - kids who are obese are getting hit with Covid the worse as a demographic. That should not be in this country.
Look, if you don't want to be responsible and wear a mask, don't. Stop ranting about other topics when its about masking to keep covid numbers down. You may be ok with getting covid, but others of us are not. We are only as safe as the least safe person in our community, which is probably you. It really sucks for those of us with health issues we cannot control that we have to stay home because people like you simply don't care until you get health issues or another reason that puts you at high risk.
We could have had this under control with behavior and people are showing their true colors. Likewise the government and CDC failed us by saying all we needed to do was get vaccinated and you did your part. They are also setting a bad example when they aren't masking in public and forget to tell people its safer for them not to mask as they get tested regularly and anyone who comes in contact with them gets tested.
Kids are getting hit with covid regardless of obesity. They are in person school, parents aren't doing any distancing or masking outside of school and they don't understand it as they go by what their parents say and their parents just don't care if they or others get sick. Our 0-5 aren't vaccinated and cannot be. We still have an obligation to protect them.
That's the thing. We couldn't have had this under control. There's no place on earth that has had this under control. Stop thinking this can be controlled or eliminated.
The only mitigation that has been remotely effective, or has not had too high of a cost, has been vaccinations. Our county has crushed that. that's really the ONLY effective mitigation we can do
