Notice that the OP of the Facebook thread said their club is forcing kids to play on age and blocking playing up.
Clubs around here are sticking with age, best can play up. Random hopes and dreams on a Facebook posts aren8't a data point.
Nobody is going to force Aug players to play on their coreect grade in school team. They just wont make the grade below them A team. But coaches will offer a spot on the correct grade in school B team or grade down B team. We all know which one you'll choose
Not this claim again. They won't make the grade below A team? What kind of club excludes potentially one of their best players from making THEIR AGE GROUP A team based on their grade?
A club that knows allowing Aug birthdays to play down creates long term issues. The short term wins arent worth the long term challenges. Also its better for the player to have club level and grade in school aligned for college recruiting.
Our club will put players in the correct age grouping…Aug to July no matter the grade the best players in that range make the team. If they are in a grade above that’s for the kids family to deal with and make the decision I guess if they want on the team. I don’t understand all this talk about August players, it is what it is.

Wait, the official governing body of US Youth Soccer doesn't have School Grade on their official calculator?
Then why is this thread 400 pages long arguing with School Grade guy?
https://usclubsoccer.org/age-group-cut-off-update-for-2026-27-season/
Why is the age group cut-off changing from January 1 (birth year ages)?
There are multiple reasons for this change.
First, the Aug. 1 age group cut-off most effectively reduces the number of “trapped players” in youth soccer and reduces negative impacts on these players at multiple stages of their career. “Trapped” players are those who, due to soccer age group cut-offs, are in an older soccer age group than their school year. Trapped players have significantly reduced competition opportunities and disrupted training experiences in 8th grade (when most of their team is in high school) and are similarly negatively impacted four years later when players from the older soccer age group, but who are still in high school, are moved down into the same soccer age group.
I'm sorry. In your incoherent ramblings, did you say something that added School Grade to the Official US Soccer group calculator?
It's still not there
What you called incoherent ramblings were direct quotes from US Club reguarding the rationale for BY to SY changes which specifically called out grade in school challenges. I also included a link so you could read it for yourself.
Has the Official US Soccer age group calculator been updated to show School Grade?
No?
Then have a coke and a smile and...
The version that adds in 7/31 when it doesnt mean anything?
See https://www.ussoccer.com/ecosystem-review/player-registration/age-group-calculator to determine your child's age group.
It's over.
Grade year was never under consideration as seen by the US Soccer survey done about 2 years ago asking about BY or 2 versions of SY. And top clubs were never going to handicap themselves in a voluntary type tax way and force quality players up an age group when they didn't/don't have too.
12/31 made sense in BY because players couldnt play down.

It's been over rules wise since June. But there was a chance NOVA and MD clubs would force kids up. They didn't. It's been over policy wise since January when the MD clubs posted there age group change website info.
Maybe they will force grade year in Fall 2027 but for Fall 2026 they didn't around here.
Nothing is "over" and below is exactly the same as what you like. They both say the same thing. Although this version is much more clear.
8/1/2009 and younger = Senior
8/1/2009 and younger = Junior
8/1/2011 and younger = Sophmore
8/1/2012 and younger = Freshman
8/1/2013 and younger = 8th
8/1/2014 and younger = 7th
8/1/2015 and younger = 6th
8/1/2016 and younger = 5th
8/1/2017 and younger = 4th
8/1/2018 and younger = 3rd
8/1/2019 and younger = 2nd
8/1/2020 and younger = 1st
8/1/2021 and younger = kindergarten
