I agree. The amount of vitriol directed at parents who have decided that masking is not necessary or appropriate for their child is appalling. I am saddened to see such hateful comments.
There is a lot of ugliness coming from unmasked families in this tread.
Which statements do you find particularly ugly? I feel like more of the vitriol has been coming from the pro-maskers toward those that support the diocese’s decision. I admittedly haven’t read the entire thread though.
Diocese of Richmond is mask Optional. Because they’re sane and not neurotic weirdos
For the love of God. If you want your kid masked, then go to Public school. Stop
trying to have your cake and eat it too. At Catholic schools, we want it optional. It’s the parents choice. They are children. Shame on any parent putting a mask on their innocent child. You’re a bad mom. There, I said it
I call troll.
First, you seem to barely understand what’s happened in VA. Your school or diocese isn’t being bold and sticking up for your choice. They are merely following the governor.
Second, it’s v clear from this thread and what’s actually happening at Catholic schools that there’s no definitive “we want it optional.”
Third, as others have said, I love the support from Catholic women for choice as a core belief of the church! Your body your choice! Join me in making a donation to Planned Parenthood this weekend?
"Your school or diocese"
"I love the support from Catholic women"
So, you are not speaking as a Catholic school parent = TROLL. Go back to your troll bridge. You do you, while we Catholic school parents do us.
Hmm. I’m the PP you are writing too. Perhaps I should have written “FELLOW Catholic Women” as I’m a lifelong Catholic, have kids in Catholic schools in nova, and am strongly pro-choice. Please to see other Catholic women join me.

You are saying quarantine not isolated - so that means they were quarantined because another kids came to school with COVID?
So that means the "massless" kids did nothing wrong. They came to school. Now they are being asked to stay home. It's their choice. They know the risk. They have not spread COVID. It's the other child that came to school sick that may have spread it.
Were they vaccinated? I'm assuming you don't know since schools should not be sharing that information.
The reality is that they are probably being asked to stay home because they are not vaccinated. It has nothing to do with the mask.
If they are vaccinated, your school should be reported for only quarantining vaccinated maskless students. That's not how the guidelines work.
PP here. Nobody else from their classrooms has been sent home. As a teacher, having gone up to help them out with their work, it makes me nervous. I take care of my older parents at home who are vaxxed and boosted, but they are still vulnerable. I wonder why more kids from their classes were not sent home as well if they sat near them, and were maskless.
Unfortunately, you are missing lots of info. Who test positive for covid? Anyone? Usually, the school announced when a case has been found in the school. Has anything been announced.
Maybe they stayed home because teachers were being mean to them for being unmasked. That is happening at our school.
We got a letter saying a kid in a class tested positive for covid. No name was mentioned, but one of the siblings is in that class. Our school does not keep a list of un-masked kids. I assume kids who sit close to positive student will be contacted, however, kids do walk around the classroom; they are also in the hallway, do PE, are seated with othet kids during specials classes. It will be very hard to contact trace.
The comment about teachers being mean to un-masked students is out of place.
Its also out of place to get on a board and claim a un-masked child is spreading covid in your school. Its probably not true and definitely not scientific.

Your information is wrong.
Unmasked, vaccinated, and a close contact = quarantine for 5 days; may return to school on Day 6 but must wear a well-fitting surgical or respirator mask for the next 5 days.

Congrats all, this is what we’ve signed up for.
Terrible. But you are implying they caught it in school from another unmasked child. Don’t use this child to promote fear and propaganda.
Blessings to the child and may they recover quickly.
I’m a parent at this school. There are 3 that I’m aware of from that class that are positive. All were in school to start the week. The 5yo mentioned remains hospitalized and we are all united in prayer for their healing.
My understanding is that about 10 kids in the class (approximately half) were unmasked on Monday. I have no idea who gave what to who. I’ve heard from others that the hospitalized child was not wearing a mask, but my kid is in another grade so I can’t confirm that as a fact.
The propaganda I see on this thread are the claims that children don’t get sick (absolutely untrue) and that masks do nothing (untrue if you care to invest a few minutes to get your children good quality, well fitting masks).
