I put a lot of the blame on Congresswoman Wilson because she actually started the entire scandal.

Uh, the scandal started when Trump went off on a tangent, disparaging his predecessors and how they responded to servicemen killed in action, and then scrambled to do something to show he actually cared about the 4 men killed in Niger and then bungled the call to the widow of Sgt. Johnson. All that happened before Wilson spoke up.

No. He didn't disparage them. Listen to the video of the answer he gave. The media spun it into disparagement.

+1. Congresswoman Wilson reported an incident she and others saw as troubling. That's her right. (We still have free speech don't we?)

Those women who dress provocatively are asking for it, I blame them for getting raped.

I don't want to hear another word about the petty take a knee given how this president is treating a gold star widow.

The troops were there due to ‘bring back our girls’ Michelle. Furthermore, this widow has no right to information that can compromise future missions and potentially get others killed. I understand she’s grieving but she’s being led to believe she has a right to this information. The media and Dems should stop using her.

STFU, moron. What was the Benghazi investigation all about?

About men who could’ve helped in an attack on 9/11 but were told to stand down. They didn’t.

I agree with you.
Does anyone seriously believe that President Trump called the family with the intent of insulting or disrespecting them?
If Congresswoman was a decent person, she would have consoled Myeshia by telling her that the president meant no harm and just wanted her to know how much his service to his country was appreciated.
But, instead, she saw an opportunity and pounced on it. Couldn’t wait to go to the press.
And, not sure how you know the proper pronunciation of Niger. I have heard it pronounced about 10 different ways by the media/politicians.

Ha, it's funny that you're trying to defend Trump by saying that Wilson isn't a decent person. I mean, really, this whole thing is just another f-ck up by the White House because they can't help themselves. Self inflicted wound after self inflicted wound.

Dana Perino, former WH spokesperson just said something that is worth noting.......

What Congresswoman Wilson should have done, if the call was not received well by the family, would be to privately call CoS Kelly, explain that the widow was upset by his phone call, and work it out from there. But, she went public instead. Why? Why would a sitting Congresswoman go public with this? What was her motivation?

Why do we have to be silent in the face of an unfit, boorish president? He's not a king, even if he thinks of himself as one, and he deserves the criticism.

When addressing the question of Trump's response it does not matter. Could it have been handled differently across the board? Sure. But those are separate issues and that does not change AT ALL the fact that Trump can't just let it go and has proceeded to double down and make things worse at each step of the way. That he seems constitutionally incapable of simply saying "I'm sorry if my words exacerbated your grief - that was not my intent, and on behalf of a grateful nation thank you for the great sacrifice of your family."

That Is. Not. Complicated. And it shouldn't be hard.

According to Trump he's a Christian - perhaps he should go brush up on his Gospel to figure out how to handle such situations, starting with the Sermon on the Mount.

And, it is clear you are going to blame Trump for the whole issue.

That's what you don't seem to get - it's not about apportioning blame. Life isn't all a series of win-lose exchanges. It is about evaluating actions against objective standards. It is entirely possible to have situations where everyone is wrong. And in this case Trump has clearly behaved badly. Perhaps not at first, but in his response after the initial situation absolutlely. And while I may have come to expect this kind of poor behavior from the Prsident **that does not make it OK.**

If you think it is OK and you also claim to be a Christian, then I will direct my suggestions for Gospel readings in your direction as well.

It’s definitely a sign of a healthy society that the entire nation is on the second week of its obsession with a 10-minute consolation phone call. There couldn’t possibly be anything more important we should be focusing on right now.

I'm not sure if Obama called the families or not. We know that he did not call all of the families. He never called General Kelly after his son died, and Kelly said that he was right not to do so. Kelly recommended that Trump not call because Kelly had experience with these calls, and they rarely go well.

Was General Kelly's son married? If so, the spouse would have received the call, not the General.

He has stated that Obama did not call his family. All encompassing.
And, he also said that was not intended as criticism. It was just a fact.

PP you are quoting. I didn't know, so thanks for clarifying.

I do understand that Obama hosted Kelly and others at the White House as a Gold Star gathering of some sort.
