Who is this guy, Kroll? I don't think so.
I think Steele is a failed MI6 agent who, to make a living, is a small time scammer. Every now and then he gets a "live" client who doesn't really want the truth, just wants some smear material with plausible deniability, whether it's true or false or totally fabricated doesn't matter.
Nothing Steele has ever done has gotten anywhere this much attention and heat, so now he's panicked and "gone to ground." He finally scammed and scammed and scammed and now has to answer for it, and can't. The claim that he fears for his life is ludicrous.
The available evidence suggests exactly the opposite of what you are saying. He apparently had a very good record in MI6. He was also very important in the FIFA investigation and, as a result, established his credibility with the FBI.
I might be missing something, but I can't see how the available evidence suggests that we give more credence to either one of these views. I haven't seen the FIFA report and I have no idea how good it was or how important it was, but the stories I've read never go beyond saying a report was produced and that the investigation, for whatever reason, caught some officials. I may be mistaken, but nothing says Steele's firm's report was especially key or even helpful. If Steele and co. were particularly adept at finding financial links in particular, that would be especially germane here.
And the first poster above is absolutely right about small time scammers around these businesses. Verification is tough, so it's easier than many think to put one past folks.
OMG the FIFA report totally upended the sport.
I think the fact that Steele is in hiding from Putin is additional evidence that what he wrote is true. Steele stole his leverage over POTUS. If it was fake, he has no reason to go after him, any more than he would hunt down and kill the guy who makes gifs of him riding a unicorn.

That is one group of experts giving a vote of confidence to another expert. On the other hand, an anonymous poster here thinks he is a loser. I guess both views are equal.

Thanks, Jeff. I just read it and I'm afraid it didn't present anything that I hadn't seen before or would make me change my previous post. There's very, very wide room to interpret something like that and I can tell you from being a source for front page news in the past, reporters are at such a disadvantage that clever folks who know more about a subject can really play them. I'm sticking with possibility that both you and the first poster in the subthread could be correct here or that the truth is something unexpected. Short really intimate knowledge of the issues involved or perhaps a trusted third party, and I mean someone I knew very well, I'm having trouble being firm one way or another.

This is highly concerning for anyone interested in the world order that includes a European Union and our friends and allies therein.
I think this will backfire on Le Pen. The French do NOT like Trump. He's already become GWB 2.0 in their minds.
GWB is going to look like Obama compared to Trump
