I know this thread is old. And I used to agree with you OP.

But now I'm 45 years old, and solidly a middle aged lady mysefl. I don't like capris, but honestly the beauty of being a middle aged lady is you just don't give an F anymore.

Ladies, wear whatever the F you like. I support and salute you.

I’m not really one for capris but I LOVE a gaucho pant. They are so cool in the hot summer. Soft fabric, wide leg. Not stiff fabric, they need to be swishy.

Like 20 years ago I had a pair of cropped cargo pants that I really liked for summer with a casual tee. I’d actually love a replacement. They were not too tight and were sort of sporty looking. Mine were khaki-olive.

But notice how hers aren't cropped just below the knee. They're down to her shin, at least.

I've come to the point where I no longer wear shorts, but I wouldn't be caught dead in capris. For me, it's pants - slightly cropped at ankle or full length - or dresses.

I really think any length of “bottoms with a length between pants and shorts” looks good AS LONG AS they are worn with heels, not flats, flat sandals, sneakers etc. I will also say I think that look (capris + heels) is giving 2007 but that’s sort of in these days I guess. Apart from the inherent height boost of heels, they really do make your legs look longer. But we’re in such a casual dressing mode these days, you might look out of place if you rolled up at the function in your 3” strappy heels and capris.

I am 40. My legs are looking better than ever lately. I have muscular toned legs but walking a lot has helped.

Still! The coverage of my cellulite, and some of my uneven coloring and veins, make shorts very, very wrong on me (I wear them for exercise though).

Honey, I saw a ~26yo at an aquarium yesterday. She was in a shorts onesie. Very tight that you could easily see her shelf belly and underwear lines.

Basically my body.

She should not have exited the house in it. I could tell she was going for confident, body acceptance, fun. It was too much visibility. **this is why I don’t wear shorts**

That outfit and styling is gorgeous. But I recognize most of it is the model.

The woman on the left would look good in anything. All three of these are runway models and these outfits have been fitted to their bodies by a professional. And yet only one of the three even looks flattering.
