There is a slight second wave after President's Cup, but in my experience, a player probably has some indication if they are being noticed. If your club team can get coaches to the field at President's Cup...there is still some great exposure for D1. Come January, even high academic d3 teams that cannot recruit will be reaching out and letting the player know they are on their list. In my opinion, this is the time to reach out and cast that large net prior to President's Cup to attempt to get all of the coaches you would like to see you at the field.

Do you think we are about wrapped up with D1 commits and are going to be seeing mostly D2-3 for here in out? Or will there be a second wave of D1 after prez cup? It seems like the commitment announcements have died down.

Let's not miss the underlying context here though.

And what is that?

That Mount St Mary's is beneath Capital Blue
Not at all what was meant - meant need to be verified publicly and many times people post committs before truly public. No school is beneath any club or player as long as it is the right fit for the player! Congratulations to the player! Fabulous school!
.

In general thats the message this commit list kind of gives though. I’m sure it’s not intended but look how the schools are listed - more ā€œprestigiousā€ schools put to towards the top of each list even if the commit happened later. And DI and DIIs are specially noted like an asterisk.

I think you meant DII and DIII. That certainly adds to the toxicity, gotta notate those differences each time!!

Yes that what I meant. DII and DIII. Thanks for catching.
.

It is important for people to see ALL the wonderful DII and DIII commitments as well as D1. There are a lot of them, and notating these D2 and D3 commitments has real value.

This is especially crucial for all the parents who are convinced their player is destined for a top 40 D1 lax program, when the odds, year after year, show how incredibly difficult that is to accomplish. So many parents and players have unrealistic expectations and fail to cast a wide enough net because they don't see the full spectrum of excellent opportunities especially at the DII and DIII level.

The only asterisks I see are for goalies, and that's because goalies are special. There are so few spots, and recruiting for a goalies is on a completely different level.

My intention in highlighting the differences between divisions is to provide information and reality—the opposite of something bad or beneath. And yes, you are right that sometimes a highly-ranked school commitment is added to the top of a list even if the commitment came later than a DII or DIII. Naturally, a top/prestigious school in the country is going to be listed at the top. It is a list. If that bothers you, I don't know what to tell you.

As a parent who has been down this road with my DC, this is a very accurate take on the current recruiting situation. It’s shocking the caliber of players who were once recruited D1. With decreased roster sizes, NIL transfer mess, and COVID 5th year consequences, schools are being much more selective. You can’t compare a 2022-2025 recruits to current recruits. There are top 50, 2023 recruits who still haven’t seen the field in college. Your child needs to decide if they want to sit the bench for 3 years just to go D1.

Not really. Covid 5th years made life arguably more difficult for 2022s-2025s (it’s not a factor for current recruits). Transfer portal was a thing then, same as it is now. Most programs keep rosters at or around 38 - any player recruited to a high D1 program with a roster size larger than that automatically increases their chances of sitting on the bench.

Because Division 2 doesn't have NCAA mandated roster limits. Even Division 1 doesn't this year because any extras can be rostered, but the details of that don't matter here because Division 2 is unaffected.

I’ve heard for some teams, they’ll take more than 38, but the extras don’t travel for road games and aren’t on scholarship.

Ivy League and Patriot League did not opt in to the new legislation so those teams are not affected by the roster caps. Some other individual programs chose to not opt in as well, but those are the only two conferences.
