I miss the old DC. But my DC memories are from wonderful times in my youth and I miss my youth more than I miss the old DC.

Babe's on Wisconsin near Tenley circle (and the summer - fall of 80? When Kandy Barbour worked there behind the bar).

The Far Inn at Connecticut a block south of Porter.

Gallagher's Irish pub that replaced the tiki hut that's now Nanny O'Brians. And the live music thurs-sun. And the wood fire in the back room.

That teenybopper bar/dance place on Wisconsin north of La Nicoise.

La Nicoise. And the Japanese restaurant on the north corner of Wisconsin facing the Georgetown public library.

The Bistro Francaise on M that served all night long.

Howard Stern doing dial a date Friday night drive time.

The Four Provinces (and the FBI types watching the Provos that hung out there)

When federal triangle had a huge gravel parking lot that the Reagan Building is now.

Toast &Strawberries just south of DuPont circle.

The bookstore at 17th and g street -- spent many lunch breaks there.

Gino's! The cool middle schoolers went there after school and ate fries smothered in ketchup.

OMG, my grandma used to take us to the one in Arlington all the time. I loved that place - so cold, delicious ice cream, and a glass of water. (Don't know why the water stuck with me?) I so wish Gifford's was still around.

People's Drug... "the challenger".

I think they were "the challenger" to Dart Drug, who were the big boys.
Who also ran Crown Books.

But then became Fantles.

Now, all are gone.
