Snide remarks like this really encapsulate why democrats might lose in 2024. No empathy. Just dripping disdain for folks that don't live in NW or Bethesda. It's not exactly the party of Roosevelt anymore
I agree with you on this point but you are crazy to think that this guy represents the alternative.

Yes - the Democrats have done so much to win the hearts and minds of young working class white men.
Young working class white men don’t want a hand up, they want a hand out. That’s the truth. Life’s gotten hard since they have to compete in the new economy on their merits, and the truth is their parents did not position them well for this world. It’s not enough to just show up white in a pressed shirt and with a smile on your face and then be set for the rest of your life. You have to educate yourself in a subject or a trade, lay off drugs, and stop making babies you can’t afford, and then work hard every day and make smart choices on top of it.
I grew up working class and let’s just say many of my male peers didn’t get the message. They didn’t value education because their parents didn’t and found themselves completely flat footed when their high school degree did not translate into middle class wealth.
Not to say I don’t sympathize with what it is happening - I know better than most that if you’re not born into wealth into this country you have an uphill climb- but the amount of unforced errors I’ve seen boggle the mind. Would you want to hire some entitled brat who can barely spell his name, gets sloshed every night, and has 3 baby mammas sending child support orders to your payroll department? No, you would not.
People are dealing with massive amounts of trauma that often takes the form of addiction and impulsive behavior. Generational trauma is biological. Count yourself lucky that you don’t know the depths of such pain. The system is what screws them over.

He wants people to see what’s common between them by dividing the north from the south? He thinks that echoing the divides of the civil war is the best way to be apolitical? He must be pretty dumb or you are completely wrong about his motives.
How in the hell did he divide the north and the south?
What part of "North of Richmond" did you miss? Did you actually even bother to listen to and think about any of the lyrics? Seems glaring that you haven't.
Dear Lord. You are totally misunderstanding the title and the lyrics.
"Rich men north of Richmond" is a creative way to refer to the politicians in DC.... a city north of Richmond.
He is not dividing the north and south.
NP born and raised in RVA (which is relevant). In Richmond, and in other parts of the state, they don’t like people from NOVA coming down to the general assembly and acting as if their votes matter more, they deserve more of the tax money, etc. There is an us vs them. There is a NOVA vs ROVA (and I hate that term, but it’s been used many times on these forums before, in derogatory ways to describe all the Virginians that live outside of NOVA as if we can be lumped into one “other” pile.
So the writer/singer is from Farmville. I imagine he grew up hearing similar sentiment that people from NOVA think they’re better and smarter than us and look down on everyone else not from NOVA. That the delegates and state senators from NOVA are entitled when they come down to Richmond. So all of those people NORTH of Richmond (probably really north of Fredericksburg) are snobs and we are tired of them trying to tell us what to do because in fact they’re not smarter or better.
That’s it. It’s pretty simple.
This right here. People can attach or see whatever it is they want to see, but IMO this is the sentiment behind the song. You have to be from Richmond or other parts of Virginia (outside of NOVA) to get it. This was my immediate gut reaction to the song and I am from a county west of Richmond. And I am not surprised the writer claims to be moderate in politics, most native Virginians really are.

I have to say it was almost.... a little bit scary. It honestly felt like the beginning of something. Like a call to arms. These people felt this song in their hearts. I've been to rallys all my life as a DC native but this was something else. At one point a good chunk of the crowd was chanting "Secede! Secede! Secede!"
I have since googled the guy and it seems he is some sort of cult hero to the far right.
I don't know if something is coming but the whispers aren't so quiet.

I'm envious OP. Sounds like you were there there at the beginning of something. I just looked at YouTube. Since this was posted, there have been more than 33 million views and it's the number one song in America.
I've read some of the posts here. Everybody getting lost in the weeds about policy and blah blah blah. This is a song about frustration. About feeling left out. About feeling like you're being taken advantage of. About financial stress. About hopelessness. And the anger that accompanies it.
These are feelings that resonate across America. Republicans play a cynical game, manipulating low information voters to hate the "other" while laughing all the way to the bank. Democrats don't even know how to talk to blue collar Americans anymore.
The fact is a very large percentage of Americans feel completely detached from the "system." It's not working for them. Songs like this hit a nerve. And that doesn't portend anything good.
Because the system promotes an over supply of low wage workers which has kept wages flat for a generation
Democrats used to be the party of labor but now they are the party of urban elites
Change is coming. Biden is going to lose because he has abandoned the deplorables and we know it
I fear that this is true. Democrats have totally lost the plot. Wealthy progressive urban elites do not win national elections. Trump was a F*ck You to the system in 2016. Nobody likes him. But he is the vehicle to express rage with the status quo. Democrats - and I include myself here - are idiots for settling on geriatric Biden. Someone who's been in public office for generations and now worth many millions. He ain't getting the blue collar vote.
Biden is going to lose. And the popularity of songs like this should be regarded as the canary in the coal mine.
Excellent analogy
