They can PP at Westfield. Too far otherwise.

Westfield doesn't need an academy program.

Why is everyone totally perseverating on Crossfield and middle school AAP yet nobody is curious about what FCPS intends to do with the building besides keep the Swimming Pool.

They have no plans outlined whatsoever.

As per what I saw earlier, other school districts publish their plans despite security concerns, and FCPS has done so with every school on the Queue as of recent, including Centreville and Falls Church High Schools.

LCPS and APS also publish school schemes (to some extent), with plans for the new HS-14 and Park View replacement posted, and plans for the new Arlington Career Center are also published online, and I think also for Dorothy Hamm Middle School too.

So where’s Skyview’s plans, huh?

Does nobody have a morsel of curiousity?

No renderings either.

Also, for all the new pathways Skyview is supposedly introducing - has anyone seen any information as to how teachers will be trained/qualified for these roles? An aerospace pathway is pretty unique and requires highly specific training, outside of general staff training offered across FCPS.
Yeah, but FCPS has a point about it being close to IAD.

And on Stonecroft Road, United Airlines has a training center of some sorts, meaning that FCPS could partner with United which has a hub at Dulles, or with the MWAA, FAA, and whoever to find willing instructors for HS students that way maybe.

The AI and Robotics does require its own people though.

Interesting. On Stonecroft Rd? Maybe, they should open an academy at Westfield since it is also on Stonecroft Rd. That would make far more sense and maybe fill some space.
I meant to say poplar tree road, as it’s like right past the intersection of walney and poplar tree.

Just checked: 2.5 miles to Westfield; 6 miles to Skyview
Put an academy program at Westfield!

True.

But the actual address for the facility is 14111 Park Meadow Drive, so actually, it’s poplar tree road, which turns into Stonecroft after it crosses 28.

They are future graduates, athletes, artists, and leaders whose success depends on stability and support.
They are part of a living, growing community — one that deserves consistency, care, and a voice in decisions that shape their future.”

They are so full of shit. -Crossfield parent who would rather go to the closer school.

Regardless of language on websites, let's be honest with ourselves: Proximity does not ALWAYS equal quality.

As a parent of an 8th grader at Carson, let me give you a preview of what Skyview will be like. It's going to look similar to the direction that Carson has been moving in for the past year. You'll have about a third of the kids there who are really committed to their studies and want to excel academically and participate in extracurriculars. Wonderful! The remaining student body will be bringing knives to school and reselling things they stole from Walmart. (No, these are not hypothetical happenings: These are two very real occurrences that happen at least once a month now at Carson. And this kind of activity has only gotten worse in the past 2 years.)

So ... sure. If that's the environment you want your child in for HS, go for it. Yes, ALL schools have unique challenges and none are immune from problems. And I have no doubt that Skyview will hire great staff. But be careful what you wish for when your top priority is attending the "closer school."

The hyperbole in this post is sickening but perhaps inadvertently makes a strong case that Crossfield should be assigned to Skyview to provide these people with a reality check. I’m sure they think it’s fine to post such garbage because the Great Falls folks have been doing it for years, but enough is enough.

DP. Yeah, let’s upset the apple cart because somebody on an anonymous forum was slightly mean.

You gotta touch grass, karen. Devoting your time to actually trying to improve the school would pay more dividends, than just pearl clutching on DCUM.

Being slightly mean is one thing. Being totally full of crap is another.

No one in their right mind thinks that 2/3 of the kids at Carson are even misbehaving, much less coming to school with weapons or stolen goods. But that's how you freaks from Oakton and Langley routinely talk about kids that don't fit your preferred demographics.

You need a change of scenery, courtesy of the School Board.

You don’t want these disgruntled pro-Oakton parents at Skyview. They will just kill the positive vibes at the new school. They should just stay at their over crowded and over competitive school far away school. Then guess what, those kids will most likely end up at VT, UVA, W&M and JMU, as do most college bound fcps students.

Exactly, you want people who want to be there. Let the Oakton folks go to Oakton and be happy there.

If you paid attention, you would know that half of Crossfield families WANTED to move to Skyview and are really angry with the RIO community. Please don't lump us all in with these people. The consultants and Reid's staff have said that they heard equally from both sides, even if one side was more organized than the other.

Judging from the number of comments in the slides, there are way more than half of pro Oakton Crossfield families. Not Crossfield parent here.

Can you send link to what you are referencing? I didn’t see a way to add comments to slides so would like to do so.

Somewhere along the way, they have said (maybe at a work session?) that they would turn the two shell buildings into classrooms. I would assume that would come prior to 2027 start of school. That is not a particularly big project. Businesses adapt buildings frequently.

As far as the swimming pool, I have no idea. I don't think that is at the top of mind right now as getting classes up and running and the building prepared for that is far more important.

At one session, they mentioned offering lifesaving classes to 11th and 12th graders as. I think, an Academy type program, but I'm not sure how that works.

I think there is more going on than your realize. Maybe, those parents who have been to the sessions about the school can tell us more.
Yes, but what’s the main building gonna be like.

That’s the building I’m more concerned about than those two shell buildings.

You know ppl could submit comments over and over and over again, right?

And so could the Pro Skyview families. The Pro Skyview Crossfield families know that there is a group aggressively pushing to stay at Oakton. If they really want to go to Skyview AND stay as one group then they needed to speak out themselves. And they have, enough that the school is being split. The Consultants and Board are trying to make everyone happy, which means a split for Crossfield.

There was nothing stopping the Pro Skyview families from being more aggressive and outspoken, leaving extra comments on the scenarios, speaking out more, and being more engaged at meetings. The comments on this site lead one to believe that many Pro Skyview families were more concerned about the social impact of disagreeing with the RIO folks and less worried about moving to a different school.

It doesn’t help that one of the Pro Skyview parents is rude, dismissive, and mean on the board.

Agreed.

There’s literally nothing stopping *any* FCPS resident from speaking about the proposed changes and providing feedback through the boundary tool.

The consultants and Reid's staff have said that they heard equally from both sides, even if one side was more organized than the other.

Judging from the number of comments in the slides, there are way more than half of pro Oakton Crossfield families. Not Crossfield parent here.

Well said.
