One of the famously challenging things about discourse over Iran is, ironically, its name: The largely Persian country of 92 million shares three quarters of its name with the far smaller nation of Iraq (pop. 46 mil). And here’s the kicker: they’re right next door! More than that, Iraq was the scene of another military intervention about 23 years ago. It is therefore unsurprising that, in our discussions, people tend to mix the two countries up. Let’s remember which is which, people!

Islam cannot do democracy.

So unless you plan on mass re-education of 90 million people, a friendly monarchy is the best bet

Can Americans “do” democracy? Which part of the American experiment is going really well right now, pp?

Is it the allegations of the president being part of a pedophile trafficking ring but doing his best to use his attorney general to cover it up?

Is it the president ignoring the constitution and installing tariffs, deploying a federal police force to round up humans in concentration camps and, occasionally, outright murder them without due process?

Is it the general dysfunction of the Congress that can’t seem to ever, ever pass a budget on time?

Or how about the revolving door between lobbying firms and Congress and the fact that lobbyists write our legislation and it almost never has anything to do with what the voting public wants?

Is it the absurd cost of healthcare? The mediocre education system? The rampant gun violence?

Like, what right do you have to judge these other countries that are MUCH OLDER than America? America has broken down after just 250 years. Persia is THOUSANDS of years old. The Islamic republic is a blip of their history, while what is happening to us now seems to be the beginning of a total breakdown.

Drama queen.

We’ve had 2 protesters shot and people are (rightfully) up in arms.

Iran has killed 20k in 2 months.

I’d say our democracy is thriving, relatively speaking.

It was 20K of their own citizens they killed IN TWO DAYS. Absolutely brutal.

So much propaganda so little Israeli credibility.

I’m trying hard to figure out who these people are apologizing for the Iranian regime, encouraging retaliation against the US, etc.

I hate Trump and despise Netanyahu, but I’m sure as hell not going to whitewash the Iranian regime or take their side.

So who TF is? DSA nutters? Pro Palestinian advocates who hate the US? It’s wild.

I’ve wondered the same.

This will probably turn out well for America from a strategic perspective. The Iranian regime has been a thorn in our side for a very long time.

There is enormous support for regime change both within Iran and among the Iranian diaspora. In Toronto alone, 350,000 people marched in support of Iranian protesters last month. And the collapse of the Iranian regime is good not just for the Middle East, but also for Europe and Ukraine. The Iranian regime has been an important ally of Russia, supplying it with Shaheed drones. It should be expected that Canada and most western and Middle Eastern allies support regime change in Iran. The death of the ayatollah and most of the Iranian leadership on the first day is pretty much being celebrated in every major capital.

DP. This.

Trump is a bag of feces, but he’s an angel compared to the Iranian regime.

This is a win for the US, provided that they can put a stable and cooperative regime in place.

That regime change must come from within Iran. Unfortunately Iran just killed 50,000 of the people who risked their lives for a change, not sure they have that capability right now.

Let's hope regime change comes to Israel first so there can finally be peace in the middle east. Unfortunately, Israel has killed close to 500,000 people mostly women and children, so it feels like it's too late already

Yes.

Let’s face it guys.

America is stupid.

Our media is stupid.

Our voters are stupid.

Our government is stupid.

Less stupid than the Iranian one, apparently.

Can’t wait to hear why you think this.

Self evident, no?

We are going to spend billions and America lives again for someone else’s war while Iran blows up bases around the Middle East and drives up gas prices?

I mean, Iran was just sitting there. Now we are suckers once again. We did it this time to help support a child predator.

The supreme leader is likely dead and terrorists cells will be activated. I’m most certainly not flying anywhere any time soon.

We right now have the dumbest leadership in the history of the country.

Did you feel the same about Libya?

You already need a “whataboutism?” The war hasn’t lasted a day. This isn’t looking good for you.

Iran is also going to put up more of a fight than any other country we have fought.

Not relative to where we were a year or so ago.

We are no longer the "shining city on the hill."

We treat women and gays better.

You’re right. The best way to treat women and gays over there is by killing them and their families, loved ones, and exploding their homes

Iran treats gays respectfully?

They pay for transgender surgery: the US doesnt even do that.

Meanwhile Israel has killed more LGBTQ people in the middle east in the last few years than any other country
