I’m at GMU (just found out today).

So far, it’s GMU, Radford, ODU, and Longwood.

Still waiting on CNU, UMW and JMU.

We’re in-state (obviously) and are glad to have good options.

Pretty sure Penn State doesn't give much merit.

I know.. that's why they (and we) are torn. Penn State would be a better experience, but is it really worth the $300K it's going to cost us? DC wants to be a science major, and there is a differential tuition for the major.

Both are good for their major.

Congrats on Rochester! Was this an ED application? Would you mind sharing stats, public/private?

Congratulations!!! It’s a great school!

Our friend’s son has been super happy there from the start (now a sophomore) and another friend’s son transferred after not liking his SLAC and is also really happy there.

One chose a fraternity (very small Greek life there) the other did not. Both made good friends and are doing great academically. The sophomore even landed a paid research position by cold emailing a professor. Tons of opportunities!

What were his stats?

My kid has been waiting on Pitt, submitted in early October.

Hard classes, average grades, decent SAT (1300s)

We are gearing for a rejection since it is taking so much longer than everyone else.

He was TO with a 3.5 UW and weighted a bit higher but not much. Pitt is tough because most kids are in the same pool, Dietrich. Who is in the pool? The pre-med kids. Penn State has lots of colleges and each have different standards, Ag, Communications, Minerals and Education for example.

At our school the average GPA for Pitt is a 3.6 UW. Penn State goes a little lower due to the number of colleges. With Pitt you can't avoid Dietrich.

(No info on aid. The letter says info about aid will come in January, and “not all EA students will receive their financial aid offers at the same time.”)

DC is in at Fordham Gabelli too! Our letter indicated that FA decisions will be on a rolling basis starting January 27th. We don't expect FA, but are really hoping for merit. DC received significant merit at two other schools, so it would be hard to pay the sticker price. We submitted the FAFSA and CSS.

Does this mean merit decisions are coming 1/27? Or are they already out and we just didn't receive any?

My DS was offered $25k merit with his letter. We did not fill out CSS. I agree without merit it’s a hard sell! Good luck!

Was the CSS required?

Not for merit
