Is there a counseling shortage too? Just counted 17 positions for the county
Yes, the ratio of counselors to students in quite large and many are overworked. They can probably make more privately.
Yeah our ES has two counselors and both always look wiped out and done-too many behaviors and needs to keep up with.

Only 5 of the openings are part time and several are for high school.

The positions aren’t open because of 7 ER days. There schedule is filled with dealing with kids, some that are great but many who are entitled, disrespectful and possibly dangerous.

Most counselor vacancies are for part time roles at elementary schools. Elementary counselors are placed on the master schedule and are likely going to be asked to help provide childcare to students who can’t go home early on the early release Mondays. It is not a mystery why those positions continue to be open.
