Ineffective? It would certainly make things more challenging for organized retail theft rings.

The Secure DC bill goes to a final vote tomorrow. Many provisions have been gutted.

So the mayor waved a shiny technology toy and the wealthy were appeased. That money could have gone to something useful like wraparound services

Another useless grift, you mean.

Given the no pursuit policy, did this program result in the recovery of any vehicles by the MPD?

The people there are so nice and the store has been in the family for generations. Horrible. It happened in broad daylight in the commercial core at lunchtime, it should be safe, it used to be safe. This is NOT NORMAL FOR DC.

And you will run to the polls and vote Democrat

Unfortunately it has become the new normal. Bowser and the DC Council have fostered an environment in which deviancy has been defined down, again and again.

I wonder where this will go?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/02/23/dc-police-mental-health-response-lawsuit-justice-department/

CA has made involuntary commitment easier, and Newsome signed it. Better for the individual to get treatment and be stabilized and better for public safety and order. DC seems to be moving in the opposite direction, still. The number of people who are mentally ill and on the streets and the number of people committing crimes are not infinite categories. It's that nothing effective is done re: either group that causes huge amounts of resources to be spent, to little effect.

SF is talking about drug testing before benefits - will that drive more vagrants and addicts east? Many jurisdictions still provide a free bus ticket, after all.
