GMU only does WISC. The psychologist suggested Stanford Binet for my DD since my DD is not so good with timed testing.

12:13 here -- absolutely correct.

This is news to me. How do I get a copy of my DD's "GBRS" after K and 1st grade? Is it in their file? I would have liked to see it before putting the appeal package together. More secrets not shared with the parents. Why is this not shared with the parents automatically? There is so much done behind the scenes and intentionally kept from the parents. It is maddening.

Thank you for that link and to whoever posted the 2004-2005 admission stats. One of my kids didn't get in and we didn't appeal, because his GBRS is dismal (he daydreams a lot, isn't on task much, etc.) and I figured he didn't have a chance. Based on the posts here I'm thinking maybe we should try next year but he is much much stronger in math than verbal. Does anyone know if the committee will accept the SB5 in addition to or in lieu of the WISC? Will most psychologists in this area administer the SB5 if asked?

13:24 here....2 of the kids that I know got in were not even in pull-out and one is not on 2nd grade reading level. Our daughter was also in the highest reading group and so she wouldn't be the only one in her group, her classroom teacher told me that they were keeping her with the other 2 children in the group below.

12:13 Please do not spread false information as facts.
Other people at least mention 'I think', 'In my opinion', I heard' distinguishing it from verified facts.

Great post! In general, people here think the GBRS is only compiled in 2nd grade, when it is actually started annually in Kindergarten.

Doesn't matter whether anything is compiled or whatever they do in K and 1st.
Does it become part of GBRS that is submitted to the AAP central selection committee.
That is the interest on this board.

I am not reakky satisfied with GBRS process with the given weight it has int he whole AAP selection process.

I am reakky, reakky satisfied. It gets at all the most important elements for determining if your child is gifted.

Uh.... my kid went to a private kindergarten, and I don't think the kindergarten made contribution to GBRS.
Provide some source for your fact.

I amend my post -- "when it is actually started annually in FCPS' Kindergarten."

Source: AAP office

The AART teacher at our school said they do an informal scale on kids at the end of K and beg of 1st for placement in pull-out for 1st and 2nd grade. My child was pulled out for reading and math in 1st and 2nd grade and had a high scale according to her K and 1st grade teacher. But he screening file GBRS does not show that. Her screening file did not even have pull-out reading and math checked off and the comments were one sentence 3 words long for each category. I made sure to send in her AAP report card for 1st grade and for part of 2nd grade with our appeal with all the categories checked off as her exceeding all areas.

Yup, there goes another inconsistency.

No -- it is used for placement in classrooms, as in planning for placement in classrooms for September 2011. Much of that placement occurs over the summer, with the final placements announced just before the start of school.

So it's used for placement in classrooms, but not in AAP? We are talking AAP here.

Anybody seen comments from K and 1st teachers on GBRS form submitted to the committee?
I didn't see on mine.
