"Basis claims to be different" - that's a non-sequitur and is not necessarily relevant where it comes to complaints.

Let's be honest here, there were plenty of anti-Charter operatives attacking Basis nonstop and making things up about Basis before they even opened their doors. And, those attackers are still out there and active as ever.

As such, it should come as absolutely zero surprise to anyone that this attack campaign might also manifest itself in the form of complaints and calls for investigations.

And, also bear in mind that it is nothing more than a very non-specific rumor of an alleged complaint on an anonymous message board, it has the solidity of someone trying to nail jello to a tree.

Here's the confusion....BASIS claims to be different from the rest. So how do you explain this contradiction? This contradiction grows from a very but very simple principle...our actions speak louder than our words. The truth is BASIS is just like any school in DC. But we need to give BASIS DC a high five, a high five for fitting right into the corrupt mess that plagues this city. Hey BASIS did you know Chicago is the most corrupt city in the US. Do you have any plans of building a mega BASIS there? You would feel right at home.

About the OCR stuff, who knows if true. People have been saying a bunch of nonsense here. BUT truthfully it should not surprise people if its true

I should have said "the issues involve ALLEGATIONS of not accommodating kids with special neeeds, IEPs, 504s, etc."

I posted this hypothesis only because I know that OCR is charged with investigating such allegations. I have no first-hand knowledge of what might be happening at BASIS.

I don't think they attracted a lot of special needs kids in the first place, given it's a very rigorous and demanding school even for a kid without any disabilities. But from what I've seen of the special needs kids that they did attract, many have been ending up on the honor roll and are doing great. If it's really about special needs and if anyone wants to look at how they are doing with regard to special needs, for context they should also look how some of those other kids are doing (and succeeding) as well rather than just looking at one allegation and making assumptions in a vacuum.

If that's the case, they certainly didn't do a very good job of interviewing other families that have special needs students there to get some additional perspectives on whether SN accommodations are or aren't being met.

If it's fact, then what were the lawyers for?

No straight answers to be found anywhere, it's been "discrimination against blacks", it's been "too much homework", it's been "not sufficiently accomodating special needs" it's been "too many tests" - lots of weird, nonsensical and contradictory things, nobody seems to be able to get their story straight.

And, even if there were lawyers there, it certainly wouldn't be the first time DC charters were being attacked.

There were lawyers from OCR last week. They will be back. This is a fact. This is public knowledge. Educate yourself. Call the Dept of Ed. These are facts.
