My uncle went to prison for a setup, a sting operation. I'm glad it wasn't the real deal, and I'm glad he was caught and sent to prison. A setup is not a nothingburger (although I don't think this was, the way PP is describing).

As I'm hoping you understand deep down - "willingness to listen to opposition research" is a gross understatement of this situation.

You're missing the key element of course (you might be a Fox watcher, they removed this element too): that this "opposition research" was being offered by a person associated with the government of a hostile foreign power, which was stated clear as a bell to DJT Jr via those emails, when he leapt at the chance to meet on the subject. Regardless of whether that person was a plant or the real-deal, these top campaign folks understood and accepted the "opposition researcher" to be working with them on behalf of the Russian government.

At this point, a sting operation would be preferable. At least any information leaked would be kept within our own government. Who knows how much intel the Russians have gleaned from the WH.
