This is meant for 8:15.

I don't think it's nonsense, the idea that a parent's control over an 18-year-old is limited. I am not the PP at 8:15. I also don't live in the Wootton cluster and have been past Wootton HS maybe twice in my life.

He had his sentenced reduced.
Apparently he is already eligible for parole.

From a criminal law perspective, this is considered reasonable.

That "criminal law perspective" can go to hell.
You want to see more kids drinking and driving
...and in the GRAVEYARD?

DUN! DUN! DUNNN!!!!

EVERY parent of a teen needs a wake-up call. If your kid is lying, start to verify their stories. Stop believing the continuing lies. Just stop, so your kid can start to respect you again.

Okay, so you GPS your kid and catch them lying.

Then what? You take away the car and their phone and ground them.

And they sneak out, then what?

Do you chain them to their bed?

No but if you have an alarm system, they have no phone or means of communication to others - how and where are they getting out!?

I should gag them so they can't talk to neighborhood kids?

Everyone refusing to cooperate is slowing down the investigation process, not to mention the increased financial burden on all the local taxpayers. How is that wise?

As one of those local taxpayers, I don't believe that a person's primary moral or legal obligation is to speed the investigation process and reduce the financial burden on the local taxpayers.

But he's certainly welcome to state that he has been, and continues to completely cooperate with the authorities. The Montgomery County Police Department would no doubt be appreciative if that was true. The school principal might even have his own lawyer by now.

The following is from the most recent WUSA9 link above:
"This is a community that has lawyered up and shut down."

That right there is a scathing fact about the Wootton High School community, as well as any others involved in any possible cover up. It's a damn shame to tarnish the fine reputation of all the uninvolved families in the school community. They should speak out and demand full cooperation with the investigation.

The above news report continues:
"Police are convinced teenagers and parents with information about the party preceding the crash have not yet come forward to investigators."

How do you know whether or not he had a job?

And, could you keep this discussion a little more generic and stop naming the driver and facts that are unknown.

The parents that hosted the party will get their day and after all this hush hush, I hope they spend at least 6 months in jail for involuntary manslaughter and not just a fine they can easily write a check for. Because parents need to stop serving minors alcohol and the only way to get the cool parents to truly second guess themselves is to put them in jail. Fines mean nothing.

If your kids do not agree with you on safety issues and break rules then you have a big failure of parenting and a respectful relationship. You have yourself to blame.

Exactly. But if your kid still wants/needs your financial support, there's still hope to work on this. After 18, money WITH strings attached, is a GOOD thing. Isn't that how the real world works? You get a paycheck AFTER you show up and do your work?

These kids are in for a very rude awaking if they are deprived of reality.

Restaurant work... Best way to expose your kids to adults that will get them alcohol.

You should know which jobs are appropriate for your own kid.
