Ah, ok.
St. John's secured the best 2030 class in the area apparently. Prep will rebuild via transfers & borders. I hope they do play for the entire area, but St. John's definitely the better team this year.
What evidence do you have to state SJC secured the best 2030 class in the area? Not disagreeing with you, just curious. Speaks is one of the best recruiters in the area.
The Georgetown Prep administration is fully behind Hilgartner's approach to build through transfers and landing borders nationwide; this is what he did at McDonogh all those years, as McDonogh's JV squads were always terrible.
Landon, GC, SJC will benefit from winning more local lacrosse families as Prep goes the national boarding route.
So Prep and GZ do generally attract many of the same kids, but the two, while both Jesuit, are very different. First, GZ is about twice the size of GP. Second, while GP offers an excellent athletic program (better than the majority of area schools-public and private), GZ competes in the WCAC and, for many of the major sports (e.g., football, basketball, hockey, rugby) feature superior teams. Third, while GZ is still a very good academic institution, it nevertheless, places a greater emphasis on athletics, while GP is far more rigorous academically--especially for the average student. Fourth, GP's facilities, academic and athletic, are far superior to almost every high school in the area, if not nationally. Finally, with the difference in tuition (GZ is roughly half the cost of GP), GP attracts a different social-economic base.
GZ's program has been in a gradual downward spiral the past two seasons, and this year could be the nail in the coffin with the current coaching staff if they can't turn it around.
But most of the Catholics that consider Prep also consider Gonzaga. Both are all boys Jesuit schools. Other than location, they are very similar in many ways including the groups they appeal to.
Landon is rarely an alternative these people consider. OLGC is only slightly more attractive as a destination.
