Just had a great couple meetings with contractors working on my house in North Carolina far from the beltway bubble.
None of them are impacted by the tariffs. None of them were Hispanic. They lived in the area since childhood, an electrician, a plumber, a contractor and helpers.
All of them support stopping the overwhelming immigration that replace US workers with cheap labor and all of them support tariffs to bring back manufacturing to US.
Maybe we should be able to build our own anti-biotics without the globalists demanding their cut.
Good Day!
OMG just because you say you aren’t affected doesn’t make it true.
Wait till your plumber friend loses business because fixtures are 25% more, pvc pipes more. Those industries are bracing for losses. Look what happened to lumber in the pandemic.
But I suppose it’s all wasted breath to cultists.
+1
How can contractor friend not be worried about cost of lumber?
Because he’s not real and that whole conversation didn’t happen LOL.
Forget the cost of lumber, think about all the things that go into a house or construction project and how many things are made overseas? Think of tools, they will probably double or triple in price.

Cause there's a tariff and then there's what he did yesterday which goes waaaaaay beyond just tariffs. He put them on every import. The math he used was based on trade deficit - how else does Vietnam get leveled with a tariff of 60-70%?!?!
He's so dumb they didn't even do the right math! He didn't use the tariff numbers to increase - if he did it would be like 10-15%.
My hope is as quickly as this was announced he will scale back as he sometimes does...
Vietnam is already agreeing to drop tariffs. It's inclusion in the chart was a mistake.
While approving Starlink on a trial run. So now we’re the corrupt ones. I hate this government.

GOP Senators Collins, McConnell, Murkowski, and Paul voted in favor. Not voting: Marshall.
What does that mean for someone who is from Canada?
Today is the first time I have seen our government do something to help US workers.
How sad is that.
And so many urban elites are losing their mind over expensive iPhones.

Who said they were unfair? They are economically destructive to the US at the rates and breadth Trump is doing them.
People on this thread, saying it is a tax on Americans, hurting the poor and helping the wealthy.
Don't other countries realize this when they are putting tariffs up?
sure, but the US started this trade war right now. It's like saying Ukrainians shouldn't fight back against the Russians because their citizens are dying. When another country tries to hurt you, you don't just roll over because your people might get hurt.[/quote
The other countries put up their tariffs first.
Most of the trade between MX and Canada had no tariffs before Trump. Trump basically scrapped NAFTA and then "renegotiated" a new deal called USMCA.
Example: ag and dairy products. Trump claimed that Canada was imposing tariffs on dairy products from the US, but that was misleading. There were threshold quotas, which were quite high, and if the import met that threshold, then it was subjected to tariffs. The US had similar rules. But, US exports have never met that threshold, and so none of the exports were taxed.
Ag exports did not have tariffs.
https://www.factcheck.org/2025/04/trumps-misleading-claim-on-canadian-dairy-tariffs/
In 2024, the U.S. exported more than $1.1 billion in dairy products to Canada, a nearly 55% increase in exports since 2020. None of it was subject to triple-digit Canadian tariffs. Canada is the second-largest international recipient of U.S. dairy behind Mexico.
the US has a similar system of trade protection for dairy products, albeit with generally lower Over-Quota Tariff rates.” For example, he told us that while butter imported from Canada to the U.S. faces no tariffs under a predetermined quota threshold, it is subject to over-quota tariffs of about 24%, or up to 39%.
The USDA website states that under both the USMCA and NAFTA, “almost all agricultural products traded between the United States and Canada” face no tariffs or quotas.

Don't ask Grok about tariffs, it doesn't understand them. Use your own brain instead of a chatbot. Other countries did not put up their tariffs first. When Trump uses the words "reciprocal tariffs", he is wrong. He is using the wrong words. These tariffs aren't reciprocal, we are raising them first.
What are the tariff rates for US goods being sold in Vietnam?
How about Europe?
Are you saying the answer is zero?
The average tariff rate for US imports to the EU was 2.7%. For Vietnam it was 5.1%. Trump imposed a "reciprocal" tariff on the EU of 20% and 46% on Vietnam.
