She grew up in the US.. most Americans have no idea there are still countries without warm shower water.
Her husband should have informed her about this. That's really sh*** of him.

Cold showers are healthier for you. If you are in a tropical environment, then cold showers are not a big deal.

it sounds from OPs posts that they do have running water but instead of taking a cold shower she mixes boiled water and cold water in a.bucket.

Make your own food OP . There won't be food the kids are used to eating, like chicken nuggets, but you should be able to find something to make wherever you are. (rice or noodles, some legumes, protein).

OP here, Then why do many of these people buy water heaters for their bathrooms? DH's sister washed her hair in super hot water yesterday just because it was easier and faster, and she grew up here. I'm sure if given the opportunity to have a shower like we do in the US, they would opt for that most of the time.

Agree with this. If they spring for a water heater than a mixer shouldn't be so far behind, right? As in attainable?

Thank goodness Op and her spouse don’t put their kids in preschool or regular school. Now they can go visit grandma for Jan and Feb each year. Good stuff.

Op here I kid you not I saw two cows riding in an auto car yesterday lol! I haven't been eating meat. An auto for those who don't know are small battery cars that don't have doors... Kind of like a golf cart

That must be so much fun for the cows riding in an auto - since there were 2 cows, I guess it was a share auto

OP here. Bengalis are amazing at carrying things. The amount of stuff they can put on a tricycle is unbelievable. We went to a doctors appointment and the doctor actually spends time with the patient. She didn't have a laptop open. They write all notes by hand and patients are given folders and it's the patients responsibility to bring back the folder for each appointment. We didn't fill out any paperwork before the appointment. I also went to get my eyeglass lenses done and it was $12 for the best lenses. The lenses will transition to sunglasses and will help protect against blue light. Perhaps due to the use of less technology people here feel more connected. My SIL has a great job working at a government bank and she only uses her laptop at work. She doesn't bring it home because she's not allowed and I think she doesn't want to work from home. She comes home for 2 hour lunch breaks. She had 6 months leave after her first pregnancy.

I truly fail to see the purpose of this post.
From one topic to the next meaninglessly on and on and on.

Op here. I am sorry you are so self-absorbed. 169 million Bangladeshi people are living in Bangladesh. You're essentially saying their lives are meaningless. Other people have expressed interest in learning the differences between their culture and US culture. My last post highlighted some negatives of using too much technology in medical settings. You find my posts meaningless but yet here you are spending your time reading them and then again spending time insulting me.

OP, there are some people with a real chip on their shoulder about South Asian topics. They are on DCUM "ethnic" threads and shut everything down pretty quickly. I'm not sure if they are embarrassed, think they are better than it all or what. It's very telling. Please do continue your updates!

Sock puppet.

Jeebus H Christmas on a Cracker. No it was not OP sock puppeting. Can you stop spoiling the thread? Are you embarrassed about Bangladesh? What is your deal? Why are you so defensive?

My, my. Someone’s touchy.

I agree OP, a family visit for a month is way too long (even in a developed country). DH can visit his family on his own, you and your kids accompany him for one week every few years.

OP here. Yes, it's probably a combination. Tomorrow, we will go to SIL's house, which is much larger. I haven't been before. DH has been having a man cold for several days and isn't helping with the kids much. I can't wait to return, cook my own food, and eat food I like. I am also excited about going back to work! The hardest part for me is all the vacation time I save for these trips, and they stress me out. It's not a typical vacation where I can enjoy the food, relax from work stress, etc. I feel a little resentful, but I don't communicate that to DH. Right now, it's 3 pm in the afternoon, and I am sitting in a dark room while DH sleeps because it's the only way to have semi-quiet time and space from everyone.

OP here. I am doing that, but there aren't a lot of options, and most kids are picky. Eating the same things every day gets old fast. It's also not fun working in that kitchen.

OP here. I have cabin fever today, and it's so frustrating. It's so much harder to do these trips with kids. My kids get their clothes dirty, and since they don't have a washer and dryer, it takes longer to wait for clean clothes. One child has many pee accidents because he's scared to go to the bathroom. The bathroom here is scary for him, he says. 11 more days. I do not feel like I am in a clean environment. Yesterday, I discreetly wiped down the house with disinfectant wipes. I think they give up on keeping the house clean because they have so much dust outside that gets into the house due to how their doors are built. The doors have openings that don't close completely, and I think they do this to ventilate the house. I am not sure. The floorboards have so much dust, and to me, it seems like the house hasn't been deep cleaned in a long time, but DH's sister says they have a house cleaner. I told DH he needed to hire a good indoor cleaner for them. His mom has a bad cough, and I am sure all the dust indoors isn't helping. The inside of the house is dark, even during the daytime. It's so depressing! I wish they had Uber here.

You were the one who started this thread whining non-stop about Bangladesh, a country in which 169 million people apparently manage to live without incident.
