It’s their typical BS arguments. They try to minimize it but everyone knows what’s happening.

If it’s not about porn for you, Why not agree that graphic depictions Of sexual activity not be provided by the government to other people’s children?

So you obviously don't believe in sex ed.

Also the government is not "giving" those kids books. Their parents have every right to say "my child cannot check out or read this book." You are trying to ban books for OTHER people's children.

What if a group decided to ban the Little House on the Prairie books because of harmful stereotypes of Indians? Do they have that right to decide your kids shouldn't be exposed to material they feel is harmful?

We are not talking stereotypes from little house on the prairie. We are talking about the graphic depiction of sexual acts. Stay on topic. You are free to provide this material to your children. Why are you so invested in providing this content to other people’s children? Please answer this question.

Are only photos graphic? But verbal descriptions ok? Define graphic. I'm a woman and prefer reading erotica to visuals so if you're assuminf pictures are bad, but words are ok, it depends on the person. If you're going with words = graphic, that's quite a slippery slope

You like erotica. Great. Explain to me why it must be provided to children in schools.

This is all just a distraction from the fact that most kids can't actually read or do math at grade level. That's what the real outrage should be.

I just had a parent object to How Tia Lola Came to Stay, because as the main character, 10 year old Miguel, is waiting in the airport to pick up his great-aunt, he looks around and sees "Several businessmen rush by...A girl hugs her boyfriend, who kisses her on the lips." The parent did not want her 9 year old daughter to continue reading this book. People have very different viewpoints of what is considered pornographic. I'm not in Florida, but I can see how some teachers might be very scared to teach anything, since you never know what some people might find objectionable.

Au contraire. We have every right to limit what is available in school libraries.
If you want your child to read smut, find it at the local public library.

What gives you that right? What if a group of us parents decided to ban books that you want for your kids but we've decided are smut and without value? Who are you to tell us we are wrong?

Already happening. In Britain, they are declaring as evidence of white supremacy interest in Shakespeare, Lord of the Rings, 1984.

Shame on anyone for banning books and removing them from libraries. Do you agree? Or are you happy to ban Shakespeare either because of “white supremacy”’or because of cross dressing in his plays?

Also please post a link that those books you reference have been banned and removed from actual libraries.

Once again.... the actual books that have been removed from SCHOOL libraries are in a video at this link:
https://therightscoop.com/breaking-gov-desantis-film-revealing-banned-books-from-schools-is-so-graphic-that-news-networks-had-to-cut-the-feed/

It baffles me why anyone would object to these books being removed.
Be honest... would you want your 10 or 12 YO reading any of these books?

The primary reason the books are now getting all this attention is that graphic novels have become incredibly popular. In addition, books depict homosexual sex.

However, do NOT pretend that books depicting heterosexual sex, sometimes graphically, were not present in school libraries 30 years ago. Also don't pretend that pictures are worse than words. Words are quite potent for women in particular.

-Girl who got off to Judy Blume books in the 80s-90s.

DP. Yes, I think pictures and graphic novels are the issue - words about sex or violence are very different than graphic novels or movies/videos about them. You can imagine or not imagine, it's up to the reader. Very different than images.

It's a male POV that words are different, pictures more concerning. Women get turned on by erotica. As a woman, I'm not freaking out about graphic novels, I grew up with depictions of sex in young adult books. Yes, the depictions were arousing and interesting. Possibly moreso than visuals. Now male politicians are sudden freaking out as though something is new.
