Not true, my FIL married his 6 months after the divorce was finalized and they've been married for decades. However he and my MIL were a horrible fit, married too young, and he left as soon as my H finished college.

I'm a woman and married my AP. Have a kid together, too. We're very happy.
Was he married though when he met you? I think that’s the scenario they’re referring to.
