I’m from Southern California. Lots of white middle class people I grew up with have been utterly priced out from the region. They are by no means poor, but if you have a SAH spouse and one parent making $100K, you really can’t afford to buy anything within 15 miles of the coast that’s safe and sizable enough to raise a family.

I think she was protecting him - as simple as that. He took the kids on Saturday and she called the police on Saturday. But she specified in the call that she didn’t think he was a threat to the kids. She clearly didn’t want him arrested. So I’m guessing it’ll come out in court that she knew he was having issues throughout the year but hadn’t realized how bad it was.

Their housing situation combined with his weird political/religious rants combined with a Covid baby combined with his complete lack of income for 18 months (surfing instructor while CA beaches were closed) could explain his spiraling mindset.
