I'm surprised you couldn't tell the difference between a Honda Civic and a BMW 540.
Here are the differences:
The BMW has a more powerful engine. This translates into a more pleasant ride. It's fun to drive.
The BMW has more comfortable a luxurious seats.
The BMW interior has better material and finishes. It is luxurious and has a better build quality.
The BMW has heated seats, heated steering wheel, cool seats etc...
The BMW has dual zone climate control.
The BMW has a better sound system.
The BMW has automatic self parking
The BMW has a semi autonomous driving feature (traffic jam feature).
The BMW has a better infotainment system and more tech features.
etc..
etc..


I could keep going.





Ok, ok, but we all know what the BMW has that you really prize: "Look at me, look at me!"


Where do you live and what are you doing on DCUM? In the area where this forum is based, BMW's are a dime a dozen. They absolutely don't draw attention here.

Did you get lost on your way to a Middle America City-Data, perhaps?

That used to be my plan too (drove a BMW in my 30s). Then we got a Tesla ... changed everything. I cannot believe how this car drives.

Everything. After you have driven luxury cars for a long time, when you get into a cheap rental (if that happens), you don't feel safe. It feels like driving a giant couch encased in tin down the road with barely attached steering.

Yes. Pretty much everyone who gets into my car (Audi A8) comments on how quiet it is-- no road noise at all. Very smooth ride, even the crappy streets around here are not uncomfortable. Plus heated steering wheel. (minor I know, but love it)


PP here, the noise issue was the huge change for me. in our Odysey I was always yelling to be heard and stereo had to be on load just to hear it. With my 350 Benz, it is quiet as hell and I can listen to music and actually hear it. now, I miss the space of my minivan but now that I have had quiet I cannot go back.

No, it doesn’t. I went from a loaded Odyssey to a benz and there is no comparison in quiet ride, smoothness, handling, luxury seating, stereo and pick up. None.

Luxury cars BMW 850, Porsche GT, and Mercedes AMG are like homes in Langley area while Toyota Sienna and Honda Accord are like homes in the Culmore and Annandale ghettos.

When I bought my first mercedes in 2005, it had air conditioned seats. I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. Now, that’s a pretty normal thing to have.

I wouldn’t consider the Lexus 350 luxury at all, so the answer there is nothing. I think as cars overall are becoming much better equipped, the differnce isn’t as stark. Luxury cars will have nicer rims, bigger tires, huge displays, all of teh safety features that were high end back in 2009 but are pretty much standard now, bigger engines, more leather, better stereo systems, heavier frames for safety, soft close doors, stuff that you probably wouldn’t miss if you aren’t used to it. Now, a lot of that stuff is normal on more medium/upper end cars. It’s liek askign what’s the difference between a ryan home and a custom built home.
