My rough understanding is that Pepperdine is more conservative-Christian, less Greek vibe. TCU is less religious than Pepperdine, substantially larger, and with D1 sports.

Very Greek and very preppy. My older son graduated from there and loved it but he was a big frat guy. All his friends except one are non-Texans. Lots of Midwest and east coast kids.

I would never have let him go there in this particular political climate however. Never. I wouldn’t give Texas the money we spent visiting him, his apartment, etc.

Like many schools, TCU is overenrolled for class of 2026, as it was for class of 2025.

My kid just finished freshman year, had a great time and can't wait to get back in August.

Because Sewanee is an entirely different sort of school - small, D3 sports and more or less in the middle of nowhere. Don't get me wrong, Sewanee is a great school, but it is a very different experience compared to TCU.

Why not go to Sewanee instead?

It is where the rich, popular, B+ students from my Fort Worth high school went. Greek life and football. Good reputation and alumni network in DFW. The smart student from the DC area should do very well there academically and have a lot of fun if they can tolerate the whole Texas vibe.

My oldest applied there and visited. We liked the school a lot. It is a only 10-12k yet plays major sports. There seems to be a lot of school spirit and the surrounding area is nice. They seem to be able to offer just about every major you could want despite not being a state public flagship.

My oldest got into SMU and TCU. No merit/aid from SMU but was offered a fair amount of merit at TCU.

Our oldest decided to go in another direction (play sports at a d3 school) but TCU would have been his second choice.
