June 29, 2021 -- A new coronavirus variant that has infected thousands in South America has now been discovered in the UK.

Classified as a "variant of interest" by the World Health Organization (WHO) on June 17, the lambda variant has been detected in 29 nations — seven of them in Latin America. In Peru, where it was first identified, the lambda variant now accounts for 82% of new infections.

This is why I'm not losing sleep (or changing my lifestyle) over any of the variants. DH and I are vaccinated, we take reasonable precautions for our under-12 kids and will get them vaxxed when it's approved. Most likely, if any of us do get COVID it will be very mild.

What “rush to normalcy?” It’s been over 15 months since we shut down for two weeks.

Are medical systems going to be overrun? Due to vaccinations, that isn’t going to happen in the US. We’re never going to have zero cases.

Not because vaccinated people need them, but because those who have chosen not to be vaccinated are not going to wear a mask voluntarily. Ironically, almost every adult you see wearing a mask these days is vaccinated. The unmasked could go either way.

How do you know whether a masked person is vaccinated or not.

I also find this comment abhorrent, but we’ve been trying to show some of these states a better way since Reconstruction. They are not interested.
