Subject: Would you kick out an adult child with depression?
You need more info. Is the depression related to ongoing substance abuse? Is the person unwilling to at least try meds, which can provide some relief and then make you more open to therapy?
What does the person do all day? Sleep?
It's complicated because it isn't correct to say it's like cancer. It's more like a person with cancer refusing treatment. You don't want to enable, but you don't throw someone ill out on the streets.
Has the person been to a psychiatrist? I would be thrilled to just get the person taking the meds every day before I required chores or anything. Get the brain chemistry working and go from there.

NP. Why do all the posts only address what a solo woman or mom should do? Doesn't she have a partner or co-parent to brainstorm and work on all this?
It would be difficult and lonely to be a single parent dealing with a depressed child or adult child. Is the partner deceased or abandoned them?
