OP here: I ended up having a a chemical that began on the plane down. I went to an OB five minutes from my hotel to confirm via sonogram and blood test. Are street tacos and ceviche the whole trip and nary an upset stomach.

Following on PP, when I was in Cabo, I talked to several Mexicans from the mainland that told me that their relatives were all jealous they had found jobs in Cabo because it is so much safer than the West coast mainland of Mexico. The only knock on Cabo is probably that is too similar to San Diego or Tucson with a beach.

Not to mention that they never had Zika in Cabo. It’s not tropical and the mosquitos can’t fly over the Sea of Cortez. Some people hear Mexico and all they can think of Cancun/Cozumel.

This. There is no intense heat in Cabo. I just got back last night and it's downright chilly in the evenings and morning and high of 80 during the day with no humidity (zero). That and the other PP who mentioned something about the cartel. Give me a break. You've obviously never been and think of all of Mexico as the same. It's not. I felt safer in Cabo than many places in the US. They have the lowest crime rate and it's actually the safest city in Mexico. The weather, people, hospitality and food were amazing. Can't wait to go back!

My sister’s very healthy daughter is about to turn 12. When she was in her first trimester she went to a rural, upscale resort in Mexico. Everyone (20 person family group) got e-coli or salmonella (I forget which). She was very sick, but was early in her pregnancy and didn’t want to tell anyone. One night of throwing up she stood up and passed out and my BIL woke up to the sound of her hitting the hard bathroom floor. He got her in bed and (she still didn’t want to tell anyone) went and woke up his dad (a dentist, so some medical training). When she got back to the US she wasn’t admitted, but was told to rest and hydrate. She could still barely keep anything down. She didn’t miscarry, but she did lose over 15 lbs in her first trimester (and she was petite).

Is that a likely outcome, certainly not. But it was scary for her and painful and her family vacation was certainly not enjoyable.
