Affleck 100% pursued Garner. They both have said as much. I don't know why you think she wouldn't have "landed" him.

To be blunt it's because she's white, She's sort of a plain jane, not a flash dresser and her ex is such a mess people look at her as a saint. many white suburban wives/moms identify with her.
