Always have been into sports - basketball, tennis, etc.
The past 5-7 years, though, it's been latin dancing (salsa, cha cha cha, bachata). Absolutely love it.
Hey, pp, do you mean classes?
PP here. I used to do classes at a ballroom in Bethesda eons ago to dip my toe in the water. From there, I’d take classes wherever there was social dancing afterwards. I’d go to barking dog Tuesday nights, Havana village, etc.
This was all pre pandemic but there were classes everywhere and every day of the week - you have a few options for classes:
1) find a regular dance ballroom where they teach salsa
2) find a social dancing calendar online. These events typically occur at a bar or something where it’s open dancing. Usually, they have a class befoerehand
3) find a salsa dedicated dance school. There are several in the area. I attended one in silver spring called dcstylesalsa. Owners are super nice people and of course, great dancers.
When I first started to learn, I used 1 and 2 pretty exclusively. The better I got, I moved to 3. Lately, though, I just go out social dancing and don’t do any classes.
Feel free to AMA - been in the scene for almost 10 years.
