But, other than that, there are very few "advanced" classes that 9th graders at Wilson can take and definitely no AP classes. The school would have to figure out how to offer a set of electives and all of the languages for one grade but most of the curriculum is set. And there is real benefit to alleviating the overcrowding at Wilson...

I wonder if the new school will require "honors for all" and "AP for all" like they do at Wilson.

I'm opposed to it too. Too many transitions to new schools:

5th grade elementary
6-8 MS
9 - 9th grade center
10-12 HS

That's 4 schools in 6 years.

Grandfathering/grandfather clause is from post Civil War voter suppression of Black men while letting poor white men vote.

The term "grandfather" may have unpleasant connotations but "legacy" isn't a synonym nor is it more accurate. A legacy is something inherited from previous generations. The only word in the English language I can think of for "people who were doing a certain thing before a certain time can keep doing it, but those who weren't can't" is "grandfathering."

The 3-5 option would just be for Key and Stoddert. Those schools would only be PK-2 and their 3-5 grades would go to a new school build at the Hardy Rec Center in Foxhall.

It appears that three options are being considered: a new middle school, a new high school, and a 9th grade academy. A new middle school would at GDS, and there would then be 3 middle schools feeding into Wilson (Deal, Hardy, and the GDS one). A new high school could be at either GDS or Hardy, but if at Hardy then the current Hardy middle school would relocate to GDS. And the 9th grade campus of Wilson could be located at either Hardy or GDS, but if at Hardy, then again current Hardy would relocate to GDS.

The slides that DCPS has posted say that they would start a new middle with just 6th grade and a new high school with just 9th.
