NP. I don't think Jawando is a jerk, but the reason I will never vote for him is that prior to him being a candidate for council, he filed a civil right complaint against MCPS because HE WAS NOT AWARE THAT THERE WAS A LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAM. Think about that. And then think about that once he was on the council, I don't think he has proposed anything regarding making the immersion program more "equitable".
Putting a lie in all caps does not make it true. The complaint was about MCPD not publicizing language immersion programs to Black and Latino students.

What I am hearing is you REALLY dislike the idea of equity.
And he came to that conclusion how? Because he wasn't aware of the program himself. And then when he did enter the lottery, his kid did not get in. But my point has nothing to do with equity. If anything, equity seems to be MCPS's #1 priority. But you would think that someone running for county council would know enough about the county to be aware that the school system has a language immersion program. At a certain point, your ignorance is no one's fault but your own.
"Jawando said in an interview that he and his wife only heard about the district’s language-immersion programs through a chance conversation at their daughter’s soccer game a few days before the application deadline in April.
The couple rushed to meet the deadline, wanting their daughter to become bilingual as early as possible. Jawando said in his complaint that research links language learning to higher academic achievement. Their local school in Silver Spring — Cannon Road Elementary — does not offer foreign language classes.
But their daughter was not selected for the Spanish immersion program at Rock Creek Forest Elementary, a school where the district’s report said more than 45 percent of 2013-2014 immersion applicants were siblings.
Jawando appealed the decision to school officials in May but has not heard back. He said he filed the complaint this week with the Office for Civil Rights because he believes the issue reaches well beyond his family’s experience."
Also, maybe he really did care so much about equity in the immersion program that he would have filed the complaint even if his kid did get in. But now that he is on the council, what has he done to raise awareness about the immersion program or to make it more equitable, since he seems to care about it so much beyond his own kid not getting in?

DP: Nope. Although it might suggest that people who work their way up through the ranks might have more appropriate and possibly more appealing skill sets.
Through what ranks? County council? A lot of being county exec is actually managing people and money, just because someone has served on the council does not mean they will be a good manager. In fact, from what I observed of Elrich while he was in the council, I thought he was poorly suited to the country ty exec position due to his lack of both leadership skills and ability to work with others. And he’s proved to be an incompetent manager.
I think the moderate wing of the Democrats needs to consider how amenable people will be to the "I'm a rich businessman and can therefore run government well" argument in the post Trump era. It's 100% a turnoff for me. Blair just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Between Blair and Elrich I will vote for Elrich even though I think he's seriously stumbled as a manager. Between Elrich, Rice, Blair and Riemer I would vote for Rice.[b]
Absolutely -- I'd love to see Rice or Jawando get in the race.
I’m telling you right now that if Jawando is on the ticket I will vote for Flicker.
Why? Jawa do is awesome and a huge advocate for equity, unlike the lip service from Elrich.

MCPD, not MCPD

Sure. Because you're a fake Dem and a racist.
Not that poster but disliking Jawando has nothing to do with race. He is a jerk regardless of color.

I didn't think so. I might end up voting for Flickr, too if either Jawando or Elrich runs. I've had it with progressives in MoCo, and so has DH.
If you want to vote for Robin Flickr, you'll have to persuade him to run for county executive as well as governor. He might even do it, because that's the kind of guy he is.

Rice is an empty suit, and the people who live in his council district know it. In 2014, after one term, he only got 75.9% of the vote in the Democratic primary, against an opponent who barely campaigned. In 2018, after two terms, he only got 73.4% of the vote, against an opponent who didn't campaign at all.
Pretty impressive for a Black man considering his district includes Damascus
