I’m so sick of parent trolls on this website who can’t read. You can submit a post lottery application. The schools in Ward 8 have announced on Twitter they will take students to fill their empty inperson seats. You are welcome to apply.

Probably not now, unless you moved IB. I don't know if DCPS lets you switch schools this late in the school year.

I know of schools with MANY open seats. I question the motives of the thousands of comments on these discussions claiming that the union is full of lazy teachers that don't want to work and are stymieing everything regarding school reopening. Its a constant voice that is truly disturbing.

I have a voice at my school and with the district, whether they listen is another question. I don't/shouldn't always get my way.

While I know the teachers at our DCPS schools have been making a valiant effort to make this all work, the criticism the WTU gets is completely justified. This organization has done everything in its power to keep kids out of physical classrooms. It's clear they do not have the best interests of the kids of this city in mind. AND - I am not a racist because I happen to be white and want my kids back in school full time. If you don't want your kids back fine, stay virtual, but don't stand in the way of in person for those who want it.

No, I think it is. But I only think that because DCUM gets characterized as the land of whiteys.

I mean, DCUM has its fair share of people saying outright and veiled racist things. So it's common to call that out.

But you do have the off-the-hinge people (trolls) who are likely white posters that seem to race-bait incessantly. And by that I mean take every comment, no matter how benign, and suggest the commenter is racist. Like when parents say things like "My kid is really struggling with DL" and someone comes along and says "You should take better care of your kids you just want Black teachers to die." I'm kidding but only slightly.

FFS. Criticizing the teacher union is not racist. In fact many activists I know in the union are white. Criticizing the mayor is not racist. She's the mayor and a public figure. Work a little harder and do the dissociation.

Yeah, I'm regularly informed on DCUM by people purporting to be teachers that I have no power. I see very little coming from the Mayor's office or the WTU about addressing the achievement gap of DCPS kids. So I really don't think kids have a seat at the table either.
