Yeah I’d say see your mom, but outside and masked, just to be safe.

I am surprised people wouldn’t see their parents outside before vaccination. Outdoor transmission is extremely unlikely..to the point that the mask is not going to make any difference.

For some people their parents aren’t local. I posted a few pages ago that we won’t yet see my parents. If they were local and we could get together outside and distanced, of course. They live 500 miles away, and we are not comfortable with them being in our home until all adults are vaxxed. And rightly so they don’t want to travel that far only to stay in a hotel and see us for an hour or two each day.

This is us. My in laws live 6hrs away and have gotten the first dose. During the past year they’ve continued large family gatherings indoors. Someone who they socialize with even passed away from covid. They are in blue collar. Jobs, so are unable to work from home and have jobs that interact with lots of people everyday. We are happy they are getting vaccinated to reduce their risk, but we would not be comfortable hosting them overnight at our home or indoors until we are also vaccinated. We have an infant at home, are both working from home, and have been really careful. My parents live across the country and are fully vaccinated. If they lived driving distance, I would have no issue seeing them as they are retired, do not go anywhere and are low risk. I think it depends on what activities your parents are engaging in and your risk tolerance.

The issue is not everyone is vaccinated. If everyone in this scenario was vaccinated my own perspective would shift. And when we have mass vaccination at a population level, say 70% or the country, then cases should drop dramatically as long as variants don’t overcome the vaccines. And when cases drop dramatically, we can do things in a fairly normal sense.

Cases have dropped dramatically due to some immunity, mostly from past infection, in the population. Even UK and South Africa saw dramatic drops while variants spread.

Agree to be cautious, but not seeing vaccinated people is too far in my opinion.

That’s because they locked down!! Good grief.

Where is your evidence? Cases are falling (or flat) almost everywhere because there is some immunity in the population through infection and vaccination. The variants have not escaped immunity, period.

The lockdowns are hopefully helping to slow spread so fewer mutations develop. But there is no evidence that they are a primary cause of falling cases.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. Covid spreads disproportionately through essential workers, who can’t lock down and live in small spaces. Those of us who can stay home already were doing that. Those who believe Covid restrictions are taking away their freedoms, and will live their lives as normally as possible, are not deterred by lockdowns.

My kids go to preschool so we have been outdoors and masked to protect them. We will have them over indoors a few weeks after their 2nd dose.

They will not resume travel or indoor church or rec center activities until we are vaccinated- or we’ll take a break from seeing them if they have something they want to go to.

This is my concern. My in laws are waiting for their second dose. I can't wait to see them - but if they can't wait to see everyone else they know, it's going to be a tough conversation.

Why? Asymptomatic transmission happens .7% of the time. Vaccine is 86% effective at reducing infection. So you are talking .1% risk. Life is never risk free. Not sure what it will take for some people to move forward after vaccine.

The CDC will put out guidance on Thursday saying this is fine.

But oh no — what will the DCUM crazies do?!
