You should have closed the vent in your room or cracked a window. Or opened the door to your room.

Having said that, I feel your pain. We stopped staying at the in-laws and cousins, etc. since everyone seems to keep their homes freezing cold. We’re more comfortable in a hotel.

OP, please come back and explain why you were sleeping in the same room as your hosts. That is the oddest part of this entire scenario!

The only place I do this is at my in-laws where the upstairs is on a separate thermostat, so it does not impact them. I would never do it as a houseguest where the thermostat affects the whole house.

My mother, on the other hand, when we were all crammed in my sister's house in the midwest over Christmas one year decided she was hot, so turned the thermostat down to, like 62, and opened all the windows in her room. We, and our 1-year-old, and my sister and her baby, froze our butts off and could never figure out why it was absolutely frigid every night. On day 6 it finally came out that she was doing this, and we all told her to cut it out. This was 10-odd years ago, and we still joke about how ridiculous it was.

So because you’re having hot flashes (and your hosts are not), you get to make yourself comfortable and everyone else cold? Nope.

I can't imagine how much stress & anxiety they have in their lives if they let something as minute as this throw them into a tizzy.

Guests should never touch the thermostat. Your hosts set it at a temperature that works for them and you don't have the right to make them uncomfortable in their own home.

I heard OPs next plan is to change her host's car oil from standard to synthetic.
