If you are logical--if you are willing and able to hold police officers **and** criminals accountable--now is the time to get your campaign going. There are many like me out here willing to donate money and time to your campaign.

Please do! I am more than willing to contribute financially and with energy and time to help in a campaign.
Anonymous wrote:The Wash Post piece today should keep Allen up at night. Ford is not the kind of person you want to have back out on the streets. I guess the only good news is that he will have aged out of the the get out of jail free program when he commits his next gun offense - hope it’s not in Ward 6.

She miraculously survived with possible lifelong paralysis. As DC police have long complained, it was not his first illegal gun offense (something they see repeatedly in crimes). Meanwhile, DC has the toughest laws in the land for legal gun ownership. Thanks Charles Allen, woke City Council, and Judge Kravitz!
Here's the very alarming WaPo article.

Here's a Vox article, also from yesterday, that shows the strategies Charles Allen slobbers over might actually be doing more harm than good:

Is it possible to have a moderate black candidate like the mayor of NYC? It's no longer practical to have these rich white men who have to consult a PR firm before responding to issues involving POC. So disgusting that awful people are given a clean slate while innocent victims live with paralysis etc.

Lots of people are starting to complain about his stance on crime and how much it is increasing around the hill. That might be a potential hook for a more moderate candidate. Ward 6 is also going to change when they adjust the wards. Not sure if that will matter.
Yes, he was so vocal in his support of the youth rehabilitation act. Now we also have shortened sentence thing for violent criminals too. Plus teens get a slap on the wrist for crimes. It’s so nuts. Such a heartfelt to do right. The problem is that deterring violent crime is now taking a back seat to “restorative justice”, which basically lets criminals think they can do whatever they want.
It will be fascinating to see redistricting is handled. According to census estimates, Allen's ward will need to shed population, so its boundary will have to change. The easiest way to do this would be to move Ward 6's "Shaw Stovepipe" back to Ward 2. That would move *a lot* of Allen's die-hard support out of his ward. There's also a scenario where some of Ward 8 moves into Ward 6, which also would not be good news for Allen, because Ward 8 is not exactly friendly territory to someone with Allen's pillow-soft stance on crime.

He certainly has not been a charter supporter, though he tries to hide it and a lot of charter parents aren't aware, unless they ask their school leader or the charter association, or really follow his votes. Whoever pointed out how closely he hews to the WTU party line is spot on...
I'd like to see a Black, more centrist candidate who will advance economic opportunity, focus on public safety (which can be fair - there is a middle ground between stop and frisk and abolish the police), and be open to choices in the public education system.
Sounds good to me, and honestly--could be a moderate Democrat or Republican or Independent IMO. The platform you describe.

Nadeau won in 2018 because her opponents split the vote. She'd be extremely vulnerable, otherwise.
Didn't Nadeau defeat an incumbent as well (not in 2018)? I think that Lewis George did a good job of differentiating herself from Todd on the progressive/ not entrenched politically front. I think she also was helped by her defund the police stance that dovetailed with the BLM protests last June. The Todd/ Lewis George contest was VERY heated on our local list serve and I got the sense that Todd lost support because there were many people who had reached out to him for help and his constituent services was uneven.
