Have not read any but a few posts in this thread so my post might repeat others' advice.
Important to wash cars to keep windows, doors, and headlights functioning properly. Also need to wash road salt off car to protect paint.
OP: Telling you in person was better than sneaking over and writing "Wash Me" on your car as many do on tractor trailers.

He was likely trying to help. Some people are very tuned in about washing road salt (or sea salt) after a ski/beach trip.

My DH is obsessed with the car wash and loves taking the car there once a week. Maybe your neighbor is like that and was just cuing yiu in to what he sees as a good thing.
Your subject line is misleading. He didn’t tell you to get your car washed, but rather he assumed you wanted to wash your car since it was dirty and hopefully gave you a recommendation.

If someone told me that, I'd just give "the shrug" and go on with my life. Sometimes people just want to talk.
