I'm tired of hearing dumb rationales like the pandemic is making people desperate, systemic issues force people to commit crimes, etc. The fact is that certain individuals simply should not be allowed to roam free in society, and they would be just as terrible excuses for human beings even if they weren't [insert demographic excuse].

Vote with your feet. There is nothing to be done, DC has effectively decriminalized youth crime and the DC government cares more about the perpetrators than the victims. That is not going to change anytime soon.
Yes to this. We recently moved because there seemed to be no political will to deal with rising crime in DC. We tried working with our councilmember but nothing came of it.

This is one of those issues we always like to complain about with the states rights argument and we never address adequately as a city. We should have model reintroduction programs at our size, yet we have some of the worst in the country.

County police said that on Jan. 21 around 3:57 p.m., the teens ordered a female to give them her keys to a silver Mercedes-Benz in the 2600 block of Spencer Road of Chevy Chase, and the boy punched her, injuring her face.
The next day, police said the teens demanded a female’s keys to her Audi Q5 around 3:40 p.m. in the 4800 block of Essex Avenue in Chevy Chase.” from BB today.
14 and 15 years old, boy and girl, both from DC. I wish the schools were open so this young kids would be busy learning Algebra and doing homework.
Can we split hairs on this one as well?

I believe this is video of this case. All you naysayers turned out to be wrong (the video is pretty horrifying):
Ummm... Wow...
The DCUM crowd was quick to blame the victim.
But I am sure there will be a full investigation once her car is recovered and arrests will be prompt and the perpetrators will stay in prison past their 26th birthdays.

According to the online Maryland court-case lookup, it was his first arrest. He also has not been arrested in DC.
If he is 19, wouldn't anything prior to 18 be excised from the public "lookup" record? I believe that's how it works in DC.
