MCPS was never that great. People keep acting like it was but it was always a big factory.
Actually MCPS is better now and more diverse
more diverse yes, better ro, instead of bringing up the lower performing ahools they are bringing down the better performing schools. It's easier and less work for them.
If we're going by objective measures like SAT scores as an indicator, MCPS is much better today than 30 years ago.

Do you understand what an average is? It's simple plenty of kids at all these schools score well, but when a few do not it lowers the average. At the high-school level this has almost no impact because kids who are academically inclined don't take classes with those who aren't.
The average FARMS rate in MCPS is something like 35% but many of these schools have a 5%- 10% rate because of their gerrymandered boundaries. This will likely change when the boundary analysis is complete.

OP here; thanks, but what about the MS/ Westland? Someone just commented how bad it is.
Westland is good (and has lots of green space behind it!). But also note that half the BCC students come from Silver Creek MS which is new and terrific. The plus of this is that neither Westland not Silver Creek is overcrowded, which many schools in mcps are. Middle school years are tough so you will read complaints about most of them- in fact lots of posters are negative about Pyle as well.
OP here - thank you for the input. Actually, I like the look of Westland; it seems friendly and is not far out. Not sure how strong the school is though from what I have been hearing.
