What I think is especially about this whole situation is that you didn't cut it into a pixie or even a bob, you got it cut just past her shoulders. It's still pretty long!! Your mom is nutso!!

Good for your daughter for voicing her opinion and telling you what she wanted and why (it was aggravating her), and good for you for listening to her and allowing her to get it cut!

Hey crazy lady, how do you know that OP's salon wasn't doing the same thing? Mine offers the option to spray your hair wet if you don't want to wash it there and is not using hair dryers, for example. Two customers at a time max, and plexiglass between stations, but I was the only one there when I went.

This. She is being so incredibly ridiculous that I'm speechless. I would NOT be calling, texting, emailing, asking my sibling to speak with her, or anything else. I would just drop the rope. WHEN your mother calls again (and she will) then you can be pleasant. But fairly quickly (either that conversation or the very next one, you should tell her you did not appreciate her reaction and will not entertain that kind of nonsense.

AND if she is always doing this - going off in a huff when she disagrees with something, then I'd cease making any overtures at all. But I'm hoping this is the first time she's been so unreasonable!

And be vigilant about protecting your daughter from your mother in the future.


Enjoy it if she's not speaking to you. If she tries to make contact ignore.

+100. Mom speaks to daughter disrespectfully. ]Daughter treats mom like mom treats her. Daughter treats her own DD with respect by letting her have a say about her own hair. Mom is a bitch to both.
