I don't think anyone disagrees with comprehensive immigration reform. But we are a wealthy, well educated nation. We can handle it more humanely than we have.

Also, please explain why Trump attacked LEGAL immigration and cut it in half?

Apparently, this is exactly what some people would like to do. So very compassionate of you.

For the record, I'm Catholic and voted for Biden. I hate Trump with every fiber of my being.

I also have a few friends and family who are Trumpers and it's very uncomfortable, but I still associate with them all.

I have also lived in Montgomery County for 45 years and have become nauseated by the extreme slogan cultism that has been growing like weeds all across the county.

MoCo has always been on the liberal side of things, but there was always a balance of common sense as well. Connie Morella wold be brandished as a Nazi if she ran for office today.

This does not bode well for the future of Montgomery County
.

This is not at all true. Connie Morella is well respected and they just named a library after her.

Why? Among other things like I don’t know actually doing a good job, she was a sane Republican, and she opposed Trump in both of his runs for president.

We just had this conversation with our young adult children. We are telling them about conservative Republicans vs alt-right lunatic/Trump Republicans (also the tea party). They need to understand how we got to where we are today.

My H is a Republican (did not vote trump ever).

It's really sad that the Republican party has been usurped by lunatics. My hope is that the Lincoln Project and never-Trumpers can get control back from the lunatics and reestablish a conservative Republican party so we have choice.

Interestingly, my H talked about Connie Morella in this conversation. Also, Michael Steele.

They may be able to get back control of the Party, but they will never win. No one who watched the sleazy commercials created by the Lincoln Project will ever forget the damage that they did by trying to sabotage the Party's candidates, even trying to give control of the Senate to Democrats. Anyone who wants to enable the Progressive agenda is free to do so, but they shouldn't call themselves Republicans, and they should never expect Republicans to trust them. Ever again.

Won't hunt them down, but I do want to avoid them bc we are a BLack and Brown family and don't want to be near any family who votes for someone who does not want us to exist. It's a safety issue for me.

You need therapy for your anxiety. No one is coming to get you. Amazingly, you have been safe during the entire four years of the Trump administration, and guess what, you will still be safe from now on... Not to mention that you need to change your news source.

Trump done f#cked up.

They were fools. Biden has the same tools as Trump to use against the pandemic. Plus Trump already got the vaccines done. The only thing Biden can do differently is ask people to "pretty please, wear a mask."

National lock-down? Good luck with that. There is no Constitutional authority for that, and if Dems argue to give the President that authority than the next R will have it also.

My trumpy sibling is married to a POC, as is their dc. They have black and brown blood relatives and STILL are trumpers. My friend is an immigrant from South America and is trumpy as hell. Not all trumpers are motivated by racist hate, many are motivated by $$$. Money/taxes are more important than the fact that my black nephews are at great risk of being profiled and victims of brutality and that the out going president riled up racists and made open bigotry ok. I tried to sway them to reject hatred and they said I'm full of sh!t.

I think you need to dig a little deeper and with more nuance. You can be married to a POC and (stay with me now), still be racist! Men can be married to women and still be misogynist, right?

In terms of South America, the Latinx vote is far more complex. You need to consider factors such as how "White" this person appears, how evangelical leaning is this person, etc. Hate to break it to you, but the overwhelming majority of people who voted for Trump are WHITE. And are racist or are ok witih racism, which makes them racist

Our parents marched in the civil rights movement. My dad was arrested over 20 times for protesting. Our childhood home was open to intellectuals who were white, black, brown, gay, straight. My parents never taught us to be racist or not racist, but they set an example of being good friends and hosts and for raising your voice and taking action to fight for what's right. Believe me when I tell you my sibling isn't a racist, he's greedy af.

Greedy and racism go hand in hand. It's more subscribing to white supremacy

These greedy people (especially POC) who voted trump are not consciously supporting racism. Their single issue is so strong that they rationalize away the evidence of racism. Trumpers are a death cult.

As it should be. Remember when it was considered tacky to discuss religion, money and politics? The divisiveness of the past decade or so makes intellectual discourse impossible. America ain't all that great in fact, she's tacky af.

Those who support DT always say that. Standing by one, makes you one.

And don't for one second believe that someone who voted for Biden isn't one either. They gave us 2 horrible candidates. We all had to pick one of the 2. Everyone had different reasons for voting for whoever they voted for. Some people voted for taxes. Some for health care. Some for immigration. Some for abortion rights. Some for gun rights and on and on. Dems are not a monolith and neither are republicans. You can't make a blatant statement about whether someone is a racist or not based on who they voted for. You are taking a simplistic and convenient route.

I already mentioned this on this board once, but there's a humongous house right next to the new Tilden MS building that used to be draped in Trump's flag and a huge sign that read "Deplorables and Proud". So here's one of the votes, OP, you're wondering about.

Pew Research disagrees, 70% ish voted Biden.

30% is still notable. (DP).

According to exit polls, 35% of Muslims voted for Trump. Maybe Dems should realize “all Republicans are racist” doesn’t have the traction it once did. I wonder what Muslims think of the Dems stances on gender identity issues for example.

I don't think the saying is all republicans are racist... it's everybody is racist, and all Trump supporters voted for a white supremacist.

citation please?

Anyhow, I think it's itneresting when people love to point out so and so ehtnic group voted for Trump, when WHITE PEOPLE HAD THE LARGEST PERCENT OF PEOPLE VOTING FOR HIM! Fix your nonsense first, and then start pointing fingers. Many muslims might be White appearing--that makes a huge difference. Than say, those who are brown.
