This. Then if he has not conceded and either the litigation continues or we have a tie in the Electoral College, i believe will we have what’s known as a contingent election. Apparently this has a few types, two of which are discussed here. If you’re really into it, I’m sure there are some more detailed academic articles and you could always read the Constitution.

If the litigation remains pending, then I believe Pelosi (or her successor) becomes President temporarily. By contrast, if we have a tie in the Electoral College, then I think Democrats have a problem because the House votes for President, with each state’s delegation getting one vote. Republicans control more state delegations than Democrats, so they’d have more votes and would protege this Trump. But don’t take my word for certain because I’m just beginning to read up on this myself.

Could someone address this please?

They talked about this on NYT Daily podcast. It’s a real possible outcome for Trump continuing.

It was somewhat terrifying watching a youtube stream from the whitehouse yesterday. Even Fox news cut off the feed since there were no facts. However, I have to say they presented a seemingly endless list of issues, irregularities, question marks, etc. None of it could clearly be called "illegal" by them. But because of how elections are handled differently between states and because of USPS delivery issues, right now it is a feeding frenzy for conspiracy theorists. Again, no one can prove anything was illegal. So, much distortion of the facts. You never get both sides of the issues or get statements about elections laws. Just constant conspiracy talk. The sad fact is, 20 to 40% of Americans will eat this up an use it to confirm their bias. Trump is going to ride the hate and misinformation as long as he can.

The GOP is jumping on the “voter fraud” bandwagon and sowing more seeds of doubt and anger after seemingly being at the very least quiet about the results (would have been too much for them to acknowledge they lost).

Now Barr is telling DoJ to investigate the elections to add further fuel to the GOP fire despite ZERO evidence of fraud. It’s intended to intimidate Democrats and further add to distrust.

Now rumors Trump is firing officials he doesn’t think are loyal enough, replacing them with yes men / women.

Now appointees are refusing to cooperate with the Biden administration to even start the wheels of transition.

This isn’t looking good, folks. Trying not to be negative but I’m worried. If one thing the last four years have taught me is that sanity and decency will not prevail in GOP circles.

Tell me I’m wrong.

Nope. You are correct. Trump will flip this election through the courts.

PP here. How does he go through the courts? There’s no evidence of fraud and judges are dismissing Trump claims. It’s seems like the GOP knows this and are gaming to seize power by not relinquishing it. Who would stop them? The democratic process only works of leaders preserve it - all leaders, including the GOP.

There's no way, but make no mistake that Lindsay Graham, Ted Cruz, Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, etc. are all in on Trumpism. They'll be calling this election stolen until the end of time. You are witnessing a new right-wing movement.

Giuliani is just a loon. No idea what his deal is. I think Trump keeps him around because he feels sorry for him.

McConnell and Barr are playing it close to the vest, but both will eventually acknowledge that Biden is going to be the next President and say there isn't any reason to fight on. I don't think they will necessarily say Biden's win was the result of a free and fair election, but they aren't going to throw "fraud" bombs.

All these folks want one thing - power. And they'll take the path they think is most likely to reward them at the end of the day. Although McConnell probably ought to pray for his health, based on his bruising and looking like heL! last month.

Trump has never felt sorry for anyone in his life. He keeps Rudy around for the theatre. Rudy = ratings.

I’m pretty upset about the shat Trump is doing but this right here is why I believe McConnell and others are eventually going to walk Trump out. Let’s be clear, if Trump tries to steal the election, we will see multiple slates of electors for the same states. If Trump tries to steal electors, the electors will stop being counted. They’re done by state in alphabetic order. AZ is the third state to be counted. If the count stops there then we would have a President Pelosi. Trump CANNOT take power in a second term without Pelosi allowing it. This has never been an issue before because the loser has always accepted the will of the people BUT Trump is risking not only losing power but having a very angry President Pelosi for the next two plus years coming after his butt. He’d do much better with Biden.

McConnell is NOT going to want this. Can you imagine Pelosi’s immediate partisan attacks as President in this situation? There’s going to be so many people from Trump’s administration being prosecuted. Biden would be a lot gentler in hopes of coming together. Pelosi would have no interest in coming together after an attempted steal and the Senate refusing to accept the will of the people. The President has zero say in the way the electoral college works. For all it’s flaws, this is definitely a big plus. The system Republicans claimed they loved for the last four years could grind to a halt and install Pelosi as President.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/11/06/state-legislatures-electoral-college-steal/

Pence might try to continue with the vote, but the House could then refuse to participate in the joint session any further, which would shut down the counting. While the stalemate persisted, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) could claim the right to serve as acting president starting on Jan. 20 for as long as Senate Republicans fail to recognize Biden’s status as president-elect based on the popular vote in the relevant states.

This could certainly happen re Pelosi. Until Trump sends his DOJ and DHS troops to interrupt the proceedings, when Pence will simply declare Trump to have been re-elected. And that’s what they will do, while they wait for the Supreme Republican Court to agree with Trump and Pence, which that entity will do.

This is already done.

Pence cannot just appoint Trump to a second term. The electoral college has to have its votes read per the Constitution. Federal troops aren’t going to attack Congress. Let’s be clear here. We are either going to have a President Biden or a President Pelosi. No Republican wants President Pelosi so they’ll allow Trump to play these games a little longer then tell him it’s over. Biden will be the next President.

If enough states do not certify their results by 12/8, the states get 1 viote each.. Biden will lose. Isn't this possible?

All of the states will certify by then.

How can you be sure? Republican governor says Trump is contesting. We are investigating. We can not yet certify.

Because the investigation will be over very quickly. There’s nothing nefarious or illegal to investigate. I can contest what the weather is and insist it’s raining. You can investigate by going outside and seeing it is in fact sunny. Investigation over .

That would typically be a very expectable outcome but the current administration would bring in a scientist to present an argument that the level of humidity represents rain even if there are no drops or the rain is evaporating at a higher level or just lie and say that it is raining.

What is unclear is if this is all a ruse for Trump to keep grifting more money from his supporters while also keeping him in the fold through Jan 5, or, if this is a huge gambit for a coup against the election. Neither is a good look, but the latter is terrifying.

She’s nothing but a pathetic Trump lackey. She’ll have blood on her hands when more people needlessly die of coronavirus because she delayed the transition, but she can’t ultimately stop the inauguration from happening.

It is significant, but the subject of this discussion is whether Trump can retain power after Inauguration Day. The answer to that question is no, Emily Murphy cannot keep Trump in power.
