Distance learning isn't working well for us. But what is evening more stressful and disappointing is how rushed the curriculum seems to be for public schools.
My child is behind and yet they just keep pushing through with minimal intervention. The intervention that is occurring is not following the same topics or learning patterns not the main class or even other intervention teachers or the areas our child needs help with, it is all over the map.
So, yes, the gap is getting bigger. But public schools are just pushing through like always. They need to stop and go back and meet kids where they are. We all know kids learn at different rates maybe they are behind in reading but ahead in Math or social emotional skills or the opposite.
I know DL isn't the best insight into a school. The insight I am getting really has me questioning if public school is good for anyone

We’re in a global crisis. That means sometimes we’re all going to have to sacrifice.

Except for teachers, apparently.

Hardly anyone in DC has coronavirus.

Sadly, it appears from WTU arguments that the existence of teachers in classrooms, no matter what precautions you take, spontaneous generates cases of COVID. We didn't get COVID from bats--it was one of those damn teachers in a classroom.

even more mysteriously, it only spontaneously generates when those teachers are WTU members. Somehow Catholic school, private school, and daycare teachers are immune.

Hey you could just move, that'll show those teachers then.

Wow. Cool argument. Maybe the teachers who don't want to do their jobs should be the ones to move.

"At the beginning of the current academic year, the number of Black children who met the literacy benchmarks dropped by 14 percentage points, to 31 percent. For White students, it dropped 6 percentage points, to 67 percent.

Latino students dropped 12 percentage points, from 42 percent of students passing the exam to 30 percent."
