As a result, both groups are taking active measures to sabotage any opening for the child who absolutely need it the most, thereby continuing the increasing exponential risk that these kids are in. In short, selfish people are screwing over disadvantaged children, yet again.

I was told by a union organizer that teachers will be striking this Monday. To protest the plan for going back in person.
This makes me loathe the stupid parents supporting WTU even more. Do you still really think WTU has the kids' best interest at heart (looking at you PTA President who encourages parents to support WTU)?
I’m a parent who has had kids in DCPS a long time. I’m not a huge fan of the WTU but if you think that the Mayor and DCPS puts students first, you are crazy.

I think asking for adequate safety measures is putting the students first. Health comes before in-person learning and no one should have to risk their health just so that DD can be in a school building.
They have spent tens of millions putting safely measures in place, and parents have a choice whether or not to send their kids back. How is that putting children firsts?
YES.
Thank you! PP here who said I loathe these WTU supporting parents. Not sure how the other pp knows that I have a DD, but she has an IEP and desperately needs her in-person spot that she got! She's getting further and further behind as DL isn't working at all for her. DCPS has similar safety measures in place as other places that have opened, but it's never enough. WTU wants unreasonable safety terms plus asking for more money and no teacher evaluations.
Obstructing opening definitely won't help my kid.

A slot that wasn’t real?
